This has to be a joke. But there's 17 bids on it atm. Either people are spamming bids or someone's gonna get screwed.

no joke... i have seen working V5 6000's go for over 800 , one went for 1k+. these are rare cards that never made it to retail to even own a none working one would be a nice piece to that 3dfx collection. Good thing my collection isnt that big and i dont feel like spending that much for something i cant play games on. :)

Having a collector part that is working adds to the price. Not my cup of tea collecting gaming history, but to each his own.

wow, I can't believe someone would spend that kind of money on something that doesn't even work. This just doesn't seem like the kind of thing one would actively collect

The secret is that they have diamonds hidden in the card lol

Humans collect the oddest things. Bottle caps...? The rarer the item, for that type of collector, it becomes more desired. Simple economics will show. Less of it, higher demand. Cost goes up.
I can see a well to do game dev wanting to collect gaming related items.
its a good piece of history :)
a :)
I can't believe how primitive it is by todays standards, but I stood by 3DFX until their death. Long live the Voodoo!

Remeber the Monster 3D? The add on card that connected to your existing video card. That was my first video card purchase.

It's amazing what the rare 3Dfx cards go for, a while back there was supposed to have been a 3Dfx rampage (an ES of the unreleased card after the Voodoo 5 6000) that changed hands on ebay for over 1000 euros.
Every time I see that thing it reminds me of 3DFX jumping out of the sanity window. Only the mad jump out of a window.

It seems considerably less ridiculous than Nvidia's Quad SLI, at least they crammed it onto one board.
It seems considerably less ridiculous than Nvidia's Quad SLI, at least they crammed it onto one board. The only reason why Quad SLI is ridiculous is because nVidia is using SLI, an old multi-GPU solution from 3DFX themselves.
Is quad Crossfire ridiculous? I don't belive so, because it is scaleable and if you need the power, you can have the powaaaa.
As for 1 board... I like the fact that's it's on one board, but damn, that's too big, keep it no more then an inch or two longer then the ATX width so it fits in a somewhat average sized case.
lol

if i looked it up right that will cost me $800 then a psu with a big enough 3.3v rail. as the psu used to power those had 56amps on 3.3v rail.
*scratch that it had a 2.9v rail of 75amps...*

I like 3Dfx. I had a working Voodoo5 until I let my friend test his computer with it. I was so mad. I have some original 3Dfx boxes. They were the coolest ever.
3Dfx still lives on though through nVidia.

Proud owner of a still-working Voodoo3 3000 here. I used to have a Voodoo Banshee but it nuked itself from not having any kind of heatsink :(
I found two Voodoo 5 5500 when we had Office Cleaning at Massive Entertainment. I could have SLId them. But someone else claimed they needed to stay within the company. Don't know why. Maybe so nobody would ebay them off for $800?

v4/5 can not be sli'd, they wouldnt have gone for that much. at most you get for a voodoo5 5500 is about $50 still, on ebay. i just saw 2 voodoo 2's with sli cable and pass thru go for $20 BIN.

Still...I cant help but wonder how they would stand up to some newer games. I cant imagine very well, but it would still be cool to see!

There was definitely a 16 chip version of that card as well, and possibly a 32 though I'm not 100% sure.
