View Full Version : 3850 and 3870 question?

Am i correct in that the 3850's are just underclocked 3870's, so you could just OC it to the 3870 speeds or more? Isnt there suppose to be 512mb 3850's?

No there's more too it than that. The 3850 is 256mb DDR3... the 3870 is 512mb DDR4. I'm pretty sure theres more as well.

If you can afford the 3870, the GDDR4 alone is worth it. It's only like $30 more...I'd say absolutely get it. Cut back on a meal out for the next month :)

i agree, you will get MUCH more out of the 3870 than the 3850 so much better :)

The cooling on a 3850 is weaker also.

Cards like the powercolor 3850 xtreme are interesting though. 512MB GDDR3( ICs rated for 2Ghz i think) and a nice cooler for $200(price mentioned in a review, haven't seen it in stock yet.) Sure you'll never get the memory clocked as high as a 3870 but with the nice cooler I'd love to see what kind of core clocks one of us could achieve.

I'm gettin' tired of refreshing my browser every hour to see if they're on sale at Newegg yet. I have an 'auto-notify' on some Saphires, but I get the feeling by the time I read it, they'll be sold out again.

Arh dont whine.. the price for a 3570 is 340usd here in denmark :S..

im going to buy the card via. newegg or something whenever the get in stock.. so mutch cheaper.

In UK the hd3870 works out at $310 US and the 8800gt is $350 US at their cheapest prices!!!
