CAS stands for column access strobe. Mostly you get CAS3 unless you ask for it special. CAS is (I believe) the number of clock cycles it takes to access a memory address. Running at only 2 cycles instead of 3 means running at CAS2 is potentially 33% faster than at CAS3.

You set the CAS to 2 or 3 on your motherboard, based on the ram you want to use. Better study up on the concepts involved a little before you start changing things.
