How good is volcano 7?
I need it to cool my K7-1Ghz@1250 and use it on 1900+ when i get it next month.

I want that hsf, because I think that it looks cool...
I don't know what to think about that temp sensor, though...

I am going to get one, I think. But I will put that 80mm fan on full...

It's not bad for thermaltake, however, i would reccomend an sk-6 above the volcano 7

I love my volcano 5...and these should be pretty cheap.

If you want to spend more $$ and can bear the noise.
What disapointed me is that the Volcano 7 was full copper.
It has a copper base and very big.
Its unlike others and 80x80 instead of 60x60 and holds a 80mm fan and pushes 60+cfm.
Although heres the bottleneck. The sensor at full doesnt always stay at 5000RPM. You will need to mod it so you get the full CFM and the full 5000rpm.
The volcano is good for the $$$ I put one in for a buddy of mine.
He is'nt oc'ed(yet)but has good temps with it(for an Amd 1.4). The only thing I did'nt like was the load temps!!He would be at 36c then at load would jump to about 58c:mad: But maybe better case cooling could help him out a little.

you can get a bare sk-6 for only a little over 25$, and you can mount a 80mm fan diagonally on it. Get a mid output 80mm fan for about 8-10$ (i'm aware that it's orgionally designed for 60mm fans, not just a misguided n00b)

I don't care for the sk-6 because of those funny looking wires that hold on the fan, and I hear it is loud. Furthermore, it is heavy, over AMD specs, in fact.

every high performance heatsink on the market is over AMD's spefications. I'm sure the volcano 2 is over amds limit of a mere 300 grams too. my swiftech mc462a is over twice AMD's spefication and it hasn't destoryed my core

The best HSFs in the greek market are CAK38, Volcano 7, and swift 462
CAK38 cost 2,5 times more than Volcano 7 and swift 462 cost 4 times. SK6 doesn't iported in greece and i don't have any credit card to get one :(:(

I sort of disagree.
I'd go with either of the following:
Millennium Glaciator
Alpha PAL8045
ThermalRight SK6
Swiftech MCX462
Water Cooling
Copper or Water thats what I would choose if I had a high end system thats need to be overclocked and not worry about temperatures.

Volcano 7 is great (for the price) once you A)snip that little diode off or B) stick it down between the fins! Looks very cool too, not that looks matter. It's kinda loud at 5000 rpm, so you could mod it with dabs of silicone between the heatsink and fan to reduce vibration. See sig for my MBM temps.
Good heatsink. Millenium Glaciator 1 or 2 are a bit better and only a little more expensive.

the 6cu+ isnt all to bad also , but i wouldnt call it a quiet HSF
and its cheap

Don't get a Volcano7. Please... Save yourself the headache and get a quality heatsink.
And about it being over AMD's specifications: so? We're on an OVERCLOCKING forum! We do what it takes to get the best performance out of our machines. I'm going watercooling by the end of the week.
Get either of these:
MCX462
Glaciator1/2
Sk-6
PAL 8045
Glaciator if you want good performance and a quiet HSF. I love mine. When I get a new rig I'll put in there. The MCX426 is hands-down the best, but expensive. If you're conervative on cost get the SK-6 w/ a soyo fan or something, but remember copper works best with high airflow, which makes noise.
Hope I've helped.

the 6cu is very quiet - doesn't bother me - when I had it and my CAK38 is tolerable as well...
the Volcano 7 if it is only as good as the 6cu - then it is worth the money!

Glaciator 2 will cost me around $90 (i must get it from US or UK) ($34 the HSF+$46 the transport)
SK-6 the same
Volcano 7 will cost me only $38 USD or 44 EURO (if any admin read this please insert the EURO symbol :))

Personally, I can't wait to get my hands on a Volcano 7 and mod it to detect temp changes better.
If it cools even a bit better than my 6Cu...I'm there !

The dimensions of the Volcano 7 is huge its 80x80!
Its only has a .3 less CW than the 6cu+
If your going to go cooling I suggest you go big.

just throw a better 80 mm fan on it :burn:

It already has a "good" fan on it. At 5000rpm flat it pushes 53cfm.

personnally, i would rather buy a really good hsf...like the new mcx-470 or whatever the new swifty is, without one of those delta fans, and just put a high speed panaflo on it, the fan is like $11 - 39cfm/32 db....can barely hear it, and the swftech will give you infinity better cooling than a volcano
I just order one of this for my socket 7 to night here is the address http://www.enpc.com/thervol7varf.html it was $25.23 shipping and all.:D

The original post was from some1 from greece looking for a good functional HSF... the problem with getting one that everyone else thinks is a great performer is that this person's selection is limited, and to get one of the really good ones would take exorbitant shipping costs. The Volcano 7 will perform well, maybe not the best, but it'll do the job. And it's cool-looking, cheap, and easily modified to perform better. 'Nuff said.

You are right!
The list of the BEST heatshinks in the greek market along with their prices follow. I don't own any credit card, and the cheapest shipping cost from US or UK is around $46 with FedEx.
CAK 38--------------33040 drx = $85.8 = 97 EURO
swift 462-----------50000 drx = $129.8 = 147.7 EURO
Volcano 7----------15222 drx = $39.5 = 44.76 EURO
Volcano 6Cu+-----13750 drx = $35.71 = 40.35 EURO
Volcano 6----------13750 drx = $35.71 = 40.35 EURO
Dragon Orb 3-----15222 drx = $39.5 = 44.76 EURO
Add $5 to all prices for shipping cost. (All prices include the VAT 18%) All the prices are taken from the importer and the only one shop which sell the above stuff.
Imagine that one 430W PSU cost 74340 drx ($139) and the average greek month salary is arount $600 (OK OK we are cheap in all the other stuff :))
I bought today the Volcano 7 in special christmas offer!! for 11920 drx ($30.96) final (VAT, shipping cost are included)
Compare all the above with a Glaciator 2 from Canada (directly from the company) will cost me $81.
Get the Glaciator II...
It'll do you fine for your 1gig to whichever.
Its quiet full of copper and third best solution to air cooling.
