What is considered decent frames per second? I guess that varies from game to game and resolution. Is 30-40 good for the latest games? My lcd resolution is 1280x1024.

Thanks,

Well, it is personal preference.

If it is anything below 60fps, I am frustrated by it and will strive to get it up to that (overclocking or settings wise).

I had a friend that played FFXI online (pc) on a single core 3.2

That may not sound that bad, but it had a graphics card that couldn't play the game, so we ran a program to do software rendering (he didn't want to spend ANYTHING). He averaged (high end) was 3 seconds to a frame ;)

That is not a typo btw.

So are you saying you will lower your resolution and settings to get your 60FPS?

So are you saying you will lower your resolution and settings to get your 60FPS?I will not lower resolution, that is a very last resort.

I will however sacrifice everything else.

I try to get 50+ fps when possible. Some games its easy, others not easy even with lower settings.

To give you an example, in hellgatelondon I get between 20 - 60 FPS with most settings on high. Some parts dip down to 20 or so but most of the time its above 50.

Just have to find that balance that is acceptable to you.

I cannot stand anything less then 50fps though i will not lower my 1680x1050 reso to get it, i will run at a lower quality setting first.

i'd say you want a minimum of 30fps at any one time and you should have trouble frree gaming even if your max is 45! i dont like going by averages as whats the point of have 50fps ave but something silly like 7fps minimum as this 7fps will be at the most critical point in your gaming experience so is just not worth it. so always look at min fps when reading benchmark reviews!

i agree with keeping to your native res though as it looks a lot crisper all things being equal!

this is the way i think about it. I don't care what FPS i get, although i usually like to see atleast 50fps avg.

when i get into a massive firefight with lots of rendering, i don't want any lag. If i have even the slightest lag, i'd just go and change settings/overclock etc.

I would have to agree that it would vary from person to person but on the average I would say if you are at 30 FPS or higher you are ok. 50+ FPS would be awesome & things move very nicely at those FPS's.
