i have a 1G athlon w/ a Thermaltake dragon orb 3 on Soyodragon +
i maneged to break oneof the fan blades off ( pease dont ask how it was stupid and my egois hurt enough w/o ppl knowing)
needless to say it is off balance (creates a huge amout of noise and the fan vigbrates) im worried about the fan vibration messing my proc or even worse ripping of teh ZIF slot on mt mobo,
i knowi should deffinatly get a new hsf but i wan toknow if it would be safe to run m comp at all
or if you could tell me werei can get just the top part of the w/ the fan ( heres a link ifu dont know the fan http://www.tcwo.com/cgi-bin/webc.cgi/st_prod.html?p_prodid=1405&sid=1gi2Ty0HY5H-69x)
thanks if u can help:confused:

i wouldn't run your comp with the thing off balance, it's a good way to break a zif clip

That's the problem with using a non-standard fan like that. I say ditch the whole thing and get a new HSF. I suggest a Thermaltake Volcano 6Cu or maybe one of those Volcano 7's.

The 6Cu is $13 at newegg.com, and the 6Cu+(better but louder fan) is only $14...Cant beat that. It isn't worth getting a new fan.

Not good.

I've heard you can put silicone on the fins to prevent vibrations.

Yeah, shut that thing down. Vibration is never good for CPU fans. I've done the same thing to my bro's comp....being stupid, broke fan. I didn't run it until I got a new one.

If you want to fix it, the only way I can see to do it, is to swap a fan from a regular Gorb. Running with a fan out of balance is really dangerous. Because it's out of balance and is vibrating, you may run the risk of chipping your CPU die.

Shut 'er down!

If you really like the orb thing, get another-

But a heatsink that uses standard fans is easier to change fans if needed, and from what I hear, is far less likely to lose a fan anyway.

Are'nt airplanes known to have the whole motor rip out of the plane when a prop looses a blade? I surely would'nt run it and there are a few good cheap fan/heatsinks around of standard design.

if you still want to use the orb, buy a cheep gloden orb and swap the fans in them, i dont think it is as fast but it will still work

I had onr that shipped with a non-working fan. I wasn't very interested in paying for return shipping, so I just removed the stock fan, and duct taped a delta 38 on it.

Or you can try ordering a Storm Fan from ThermalTake which upgrades your Dorb..
