Today i wanted to install unreal tournament on one of my computers, so i looked in the box where i keep my games - its not there, i look all over my desk, its not there, i look in my brother's room - its there. Ok, so i put it in the computer and start to install it, 3/4 of the way through it says it can't read the source file off the CD, i say f***, then remove it and wash it w/ a damp cloth and then dry it. I put it back in, guess what? still can't read the file, i have a f***ed-up CD on my hands. Try to convert it to an ISO, no luck, its definatly dead. One of my favorite games is dead. I'll get another copy........ but still, this goes to show you that backing up CDs comes in VERY handy. Of course, if the EULA says you can't, then you shouldn't.........

(Of course I blame my brother for all this, he had it installed so he shouldn't have had the CD in his room anyway).

Now is the best time to get a new copy, Best Buy is selling totally unreal for 20$ it includes UT Game of the year edition, disc one and two, Unreal gold with the return to nali pack. And a fourth disc of demos screenshots and wallpapers. Also on the fourth disc is the 436 Patch, and UMOD Bonus Pack 4.

Best thing that could have happened in my opinion personally. Now you get two games for less than the price of one. Waiting myself for the quake pack to go on sale then I will pick that one up.

Usually the EULA says you can make a backup. And even so, you're always alowed by law to make one (1) backup copy of any software you own.

I always heard that as long as you own an original copy of a game, you are legally entitled to make a backup. But a lot of games have copy protection such as Safedisc on them! Sure, there's ways around it, but it's a pain. If we're allowed to make a backup, then let us, you know? :(

Thin line between allowing backups and allowing wares.

Some companies will allow you to send them your damaged disc and they'll send you a brand new one completely free to you. Not a bad deal.

And just to prevent further mishaps with your CDs, kill your brother. That oughta teach him to mess around with your CDs!
