View Full Version : Unlocked Duron, yet....

So I unlocked my Duron today finally and I'm running it at 866 Mhz, it is a Duron 800. 866 = 133 x 6.5 It is originally an 8.0x multiplier, though... If I have it any higher than 7.0, for some reason the system goes through an endless loop when I try and boot up. I'll get to the screen that says its speed, and a little past that, then it just restarts. And it keeps restarting over and over and over again. It does not bring me to the BIOS automatically, and when I go into the BIOS again myself, it doesn't even say there was an error in my CPU's speed. I don't know why it does this... can anyone try to explain a reason for this endless loop? Thx in advance.

Hold on a minute... I noticed that my temps were incredibly high idle before. So I redid the thermal grease on the HSF and now I am stable so far at 133 x 7.5. Idle is 46 Celcius. So I guess problem solved. :) Let's see how far I can o/c this thing. Stepping on it says "AFFA." Good/bad stepping?

It is just failing to go all the way through the boot sequence.
Are you raising the vcore and memory voltage in your bios?
My Duron 750 is maxed out at 133 fsb with default multiplier (7.5) at 1.85vcore...
133fsb is a pretty significant overclock, maybe playing with the multiplier instead...

Yeah I am at 1.85 vcore right now... does that affect the RAM's voltage as well? I haven't really bothered to look into the voltage on the RAM, but anybody have the ASUS A7V133? I'm using the latest BIOS (1007 I think is what they are). I will have to look into it when I go back into my BIOS again. I'm happy with this overclock right now but I'm oh so tempted to try and go higher. :D Again, anyone know how good the "AFFA" stepping on the Duron is? Just curious on that one. Idle temp right now is 45 C. :D

GRRRR, the usual place that I look for stepping info is down, so is my usual place for looking for bios info...
So I can't help you with stepping info... Mine is an AKCA, which is a good stepping, I get a 33% overclock out of it...
Vcore does not affect the memory voltage, that is separate. Depending on the quality of your memory, I think that you can get that thing higher. I would back the fsb off a bit and go with the multipier...

How do I take an image of the SiSoft Sandra benchies? I will post them here.

Just do the bench, then hit Alt+PrintScreen. It will put that window on your clipboard. Then paste it to an image in paint or some other program. The image cannot be larger than 600x600 pixels (shouldn't be a problem). Save it as a jpeg, and post it as an attachment! I look forward to seeing them!

What do you mean by clipboard? I know I sound dumb! But I can't seem to find any image of the thing when I press alt + print screen. :eh?:

When it goes to the clipboard, all you need to do is open up paint, or some other pic editor, and go to edit-paste. It will magically appear. (or possibly paste from clipboard...) It's there, you just can't see it until you paste it...
In case you are not familiar, paint is a program that comes with windows, press start-programs-accessories, it should be there...
Post if you need more help, we all had to learn sometime!

That is strange, your processor info says it is an Athlon...
I can tell by the numbers that it is not, however...

Yeah I don't know why it says that either. On the CPU itself it also says Athlon on it... do they normally say Duron on them....?

Here is my ram...it is generic pc133...

Yes, they do. I bet you got an athlon then...133fsb is default on those...
run cpuid if you have that.

Uuuuuuuhhh...... the stepping on it is this:

AFFA0031BPBW

Holy crap... did they sell me a T-Bird that was meant to be a Duron? I still have the receipt that says they sold me a Duron... did they make a mistake? Here is an image of what WCPUID says to me:

Looks like that's what you got!
Who sold it to you?

Yes, they do. I bet you got an athlon then...133fsb is default on those...
This CPU's default was 100 fsb. Default 8 x 100. It won't even run at 8 x 133, doesn't even POST when I set it to that...

I got it from this place called Krex Computers. www.krex.com
LOL so I have a Thunderbird then?

Here are what those codes mean: looks like an Athlon 800 with the 100 (200)fsb. I was mistaken, some of the Athlons also use the lower fsb.

So what I have is a T-Bird then?
flounder43

Yep, a "B" Athlon T-bird is what it is called. The B means 100 (200) sytem bus.
It is a bonus for you.
