I have a friend who would like to put a 3850 into their m7674n HP Media Center PC. I have a feeling that this would be a little sketchy considering the recommended PSU is 450Watts (but that is exaggerated). Do you guys think that sticking a 3850 in with this power supply is too big of a risk? The problem here is I don't really know how much power the 3850 would really consume, I've seen a review that stated it used less power than the 8600GT.

I found the power supply for this system, it is a 300 watt with 19A on the 12v. 30A on the 5v.

here is the power supply

it is a c2d @ 2.13ghz with 2 gigabytes of ram, intel p965, a few integrated components.

100W/-+5W

You could give it a try but u also need this

and why not try a fanless one like

But u should be running for a stronger PSU....:bang head

Yeah, I know that she would need a 6-pin. ~100w sounds about right.

She probably will just get something that uses up less power and is cheaper because we don't want to take a risk.

300w will be fine as long as the rails are good enough. Most low end single card systems won't produce much more than 300w's.

My Celeron-L rig in my signature uses 90w full load.

Might not be a smart choice to run on such a PSU since by default it not having the 6 pin connector which means older PSU style. But the fact while yes it should run the question is what quality the PSU is, if its good, sure no issues but if its poor quality it won't be giving that 300W out at all.

With small rig that overall it shouldnt be an issue but don't quote me on that.
