View Full Version : Just burned my 1500+
Ok so i just burned my Athlon XP 1500+....and im contemplating getting a new one...my thought is that i would like to get like some 50 dollar duron for something to use/overclock and play with until thoroghbred comes out. Question 1. What is the chepest processor that will work with my system? Question 2. Will thoroghbred work with my system? Question 3. When is it coming out, and is it worth waiting?
Get a duron 1ghz. They are currnetly $53 on pricewatch and most overclock to 1.2ghz-1.3ghz. Hows that Soltek board btw...ie: what kind of fsb's can you get with it and how stable is it? I have heard great things about it.
was having instability issues, but i didnt have enuff time to figure out if it was from the motherboard, i really dobut it, it overclocks up to 200fsb, and has all the other good stuff, vcore and junk. would any socket a duron work in the board, even if they have 200mhz fsb?
Yep..should work just finr on that board. If you real wanted to be cheap get a duron 650..there like $25 and they oc very well...some to 1ghz.

would i have to reinstall the OS, or any other gay nonsense like that?
No OS change. When you fire up your new cpu your OS picks up right from where you left off with your deceased 1500+.
newegg had Duron 750's. at $33. but I just checked and they're out of stock now. Lowest is 800 at $36.

Their S&H is a decent $6.95 and they adjust if you add items to your order.
Best bet for me is to get them to run @ 133/266FSB. You should be able to do that easily increasing voltage.
Here is a good Duron O/C guide. It's old but gives you an idea if you want to go the eBay route.

Best answer I get for Thoroughbred is Q1 2002 only 2000+ though.
Question in my mind is which current boards will support it.
Thank you for your thorough assistance!
