Quick question...tring to connect a home network...the router (netgear CG814wg) and the printer is a Brother MFC8460. This printer has an ethernet port. I have connected the printer directly to the router but cant seem to see the printer on the network...

Is there a way that I could see what IP addy may have been asigned to the printer without giving it a static IP address? The guy's labtop is running XP.

I wish I was there at the house where the printer is so I could do this myself but I'm helping someone else do it over the phone in another state. So any help would be nice.

Have you tried adding the printer, then adding the router IP as a TCP/IP port when it asks what port the printer is on, then installing the driver for the Brother printer? I had to do that with my old SMC, so perhaps it is the same?

Look in the manual for the way to print a config page.

Or if it has an lcd, you can probably find it there.

You could also check the DHCP client list in the router configuration.
