Deal is here (http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/products/games/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=29&sku=a1348853&dgc=CJ&cid=24471&lid=566643).

I doubt this one will last.

(I'm waiting for the new GTS model and this one is seriously tempting me!)

I used MSI 8800 Ultra, good cards. Has a 2 year warantee also that can be transferred among users because they don't require an invoice (the week code is within the serial number and that's how they judge the warantee period).

If you don't mind waiting 2-6 weeks in getting one, this deal is pretty f'in good.

How much did it come to with S&H and tax? I'd guess around $225 which is good compared to the jacked up 8800GT prices but still  as expected once prices settle down.

I'm not afraid of MSI in general, but I've got burned bad by them on a motherboard. The motherboard was relatively new (about a year), but I guess it had sat on a shelf somewhere, so they said the warranty was expired.

I also got burned bad on a Chaintech card which was defective, sent back, replaced, and then went defective again. It was past the 1 yr mark, so I was out a card.

So I pretty much have decided that I will only buy BFG and XFX cards, since they have a true lifetime warranty (PNY's lifetime warranty is bull****, it's legally described as the life of the product in the market... which could be 3 months at the rate video cards turn over).

I have an eVGA card (5900) that I bought probably 4-5 yrs ago. It still works perfectly. I have another eVGA card (mx4000) that also runs perfectly. I think eVGA has very good quality control, but they don't offer the lifetime warranty last I checked (it was a 1 yr + 1 yr if you registered deal).

I just don't want to get left holding the bag on an expensive purchase turned paperweight.

Anyone know exactly what the warranty is on this? Is it through MSI or through Dell?

I actually decided to jump on it after 45 minutes of deliberating.

In for one MSI 8800GT for $221.51 (FL sales tax with free 3-5 shipping) shipped to my house.
Estimated Ship Date: 12/10/2007

Like others mentioned above, will cancel if better deal comes up before shipped.

Also, this may be of help to those concerned about PCI-E 2.0 (in case you didn't already know):

The transition to PCIe 2.0 won't be anything like the move from AGP to PCIe. The cards and motherboards are backwards and forwards compatible. PCIe 1.0 and 1.1 compliant cards can be plugged into a PCIe 2.0 motherboard, and PCIe 2.0 cards can be plugged into older motherboards.

http://anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=3140&p=4

My only concern is I have a 600W Power Supply and am planning to put this 8800GT with the rig listed in my sig. If it over bears the system with its power draw, I may wind up having to build an entirely new rig for it. I know the processor is dated, maybe this is the first step towards subconsciously forcing myself to spend yet more money on computers :D

I just saw this on slickdeals and went ahead with the MSI for $227 to TN. I have been looking now for 2-3 weeks and haven't found a thing besides this. This is at least a decent price on this card, not the inflated prices everyone else is charging. I thought about getting the XFX instead (http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/products/games/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=29&sku=a1350995&dgc=CJ&cid=24471&lid=566643), but it would be $30 more than the MSI to me due to the tax and I just don't think it is worth the price difference.

I also figure I can cancel if by chance a better deal comes up.

Thanks Sederien. Wicked sick deal--considering how everyone else is gouging us on this.

Overview
The NX8800GT-T2D512E-OC ultimate graphic card provides extreme performance ideal for gaming. The graphic card provides special gaming and overclocking features; 65nm technology with low temperature, easy overclocking, high bandwidth, PCI-E generation 2.0 support, raised number of stream processors, overclocked version, SLI support and a special game bundle with not one but two games! MSI offers all this for a surprisingly reasonable price tag. With all the new features, the MSI NX8800GT-T2D512E-OC can achieve even better benchmark results or real application performances than ever!

Anyone have any idea what games might come with this. I would have bought this without games, and I didn't take the time to see if I could find out what they were.

In for one.

I'm not sure this is accurate, but I found this:
MSI Game Bundle
The MSI NX8800GT-T2D512E-OC is bundled with not one but two dynamic and popular games; “Dirt” and “The Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar”. Experience the great looking tracks and cars in the spectacular game “DiRT”. This game was rated with a score of 8.4 by the well known gaming website www.ign.com. Or experience the magical world of ““The Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar” free online version for one month. This game was rated with a score of 8.3 by www.gamespot.com. “The game's greatest asset is that there's simply so much to do.”

This deal was posted on slick deals at around 2:10pm Saturday afternoon. The fact that it's 1:30am Sunday and Dell still has estimated ship date 1-2 weeks kind of scares me. I would have thought that this deal would have went dead before 8pm and considered myself lucky getting in at 7-ish...I just hope Dell can come remotely close to shipping near their estimated ship date. But I guess it's a win-win situation for us as time passes it only gives us a longer time span to get our hands on a better deal and cancel our orders with them...

Just a jibe, but would you rather wait 1-2 weeks for it to become available somewhere else, for $50-$100 more, buy it and have it shipped to you the same time it takes to just order it now from Dell?

Just saying....

Well, looking at newegg the eVGA 8800GT with Crysis comes in on the 26th but at $299. I wanted Crysis anyway so that's pretty much like getting the card for ~$250. I don't mind paying a little more to have the card sooner. 2 weeks just seems like forever. Plus, my dad really wants my x1900.

You bring up a good point, though. I could get the MSI + Crysis for around $250 but it would take a little longer. I'll have to think about this.

edit - With a lot of thinking I ordered the MSI for $225 shipped after tax. :p

Good man! If you are thinking of purchasing this card, this is the deal to grab.

I was going to mention a few other tidbits about the deal:

1) It may ship sooner, all their items are mail order so it may take less time or more. Generally it takes less, so you could see the card sooner than 2 weeks.

2) Newegg's ETA is based on shipment dates. They are expecting to get some cards in that day, but who's to say the shipment day isn't late or... how many product they get in. Or better yet, that it won't be sold out by the time you read your notification email or try to order when you see it in stock.

:) I think you made the right decision, this is a very good price. Are you sure you didn't order 2? ;) ;)

edit: why do I feel like a salesman in this forum? Every decent deal I see I push, even though I haven't personally made any of the purchases...

DEAD DEAL

Funny story though. I was checking out this deal via the link in this article just now, and I was deciding whether to get it (being MSI and all).

I was searching for review and decided to go for it. But when I clicked on the link for the second time I got an error, and I couldn't find it in the catalog as well (I think they took it off).

But the first time I went there I had put the card in my cart, but not payed for it, and closed the tab. And low and behold, the card was still in my cart the second time I visited the site, and the transaction did go through!

Well, I ordered the MSI card last Friday before the deal died. Then Monday I saw the paypal deal and jumped on an XFX for $251 - $50 paypal cash back deal. I figure I can always cancel the MSI if I want, but I might just see if it goes through and ebay the thing. I am bound to make a profit given how hard these are to find.

you'd have to sell it for at least $280 to cover your paypal fees, ebay fees, and shipping fees... i wouldn't be so sure it's worth the time. plus, does Dell charge shipping and tax on the item when you buy it?

tempting for sure...

this and the Radeon HD3870 on Dell i've seen for about the same price. no clue how to decide which I should take!!From all the reviews I've read, the 8800GT performs better than the 3870. If the cards are priced the same, isn't it an easy decision? Don't get me wrong, I'm not partial to either company. I had made up my mind to get a 3870 when they were listed for $220 on Newegg and the cheapest 8800GT I could find was ~$270, but there were none in stock. As soon as I came across this deal, I sent the link to my wife and told her "This is the card I want for Xmas!". Hopefully she ordered, and hopefully the card will arrive before Christmas. :santa:

The hard mods look pretty clean, the pots can lay close to the points and only one really small contact to solder.
I ordered a Dell DJ and an LCD a long time ago and I can't remember how long it took for them to ship.
I've never used the chat before, so I'm going to chat w/ them to get more info closer to the date. I've been on their forums complaining about some DJ firmware regarding vista which they never really replied to, nor bothered to release a vista patch.

Okay, processing an order and shipping an order is two different things. They are fully capable of canceling your order if it hasn't shipped yet. When an order is processed it just gets sent out to the shipping department. With the backorder right now, your order is just sitting in the system, simple as that.

And now the 8800GT will be pushed back till next year?! WTF, that is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. I'm going to talk to them tomorrow and confirm this.

nyker,

You should contact Dell again and double check the status. I just got off the phone with my buddy from Dell and he assured me that the absolute latest that this card can be delayed till is 12/12. So...whichever rep told you that it was gonna be back ordered is a complete moron.

vixro,

When an item is back ordered to a certain date, most companies do a good job of fulfilling that order on that date. The only problems that would cause an even longer delay would be through transit or production problems. And since I haven't read anywhere that there's a shortage on parts, I'm gonna listen to my friend and keep my order.

Hang in there guys, you'll be booting up these GTs in no time. We're gonna get through this! LOL

I agree with you. What I find so interesting is how quick people are to accept what other random people post as absolute truth. ie - "I just got off the phone with the Dell rep, who told me that he just finished raping my dead grandmother and sacrificing Indonesian children to his devil god. He also told me that Dell never really was going to ship anything and that they just wanted our credit card numbers so that all of their staff could get free midget porn." Dell can be awesome, and Dell can be jerks... I don't order from them and I order from them... in waves. I have mixed feelings about them and it's purely dependent on their representatives. Some of them give a crap, roughly 15%, and the rest don't... at least with my experience, and I've had EASILY over 20-25 calls with them.

It's looking pretty bleak at this point, guys...

For anybody who has an active order should contact Dell right away and ask them how they can compensate you if the ship date is not honored on the 12th of December. The response I got from them was that if it is delayed even further I will automatically receive $25 off my order, *HINT*. And I've got the logged conversation also. This will definitely persuade me not go with another card, reseller, etc. Waiting this long for a backorder is pretty damn ridiculous so I made it clear to Dell that my time and patience should be valued.

I disagree with most of you.

If you have a few items for sale and you are able to sell them at a cheaper price than your competition then you will sell out and that's it. It doesn't matter if your next batch will be at a higher price because you for some reason can't offer the sales price again.
No big deal, nature of the business.

These people sold us an item at a price THEY set and we all thought it was a good deal so we agreed to it by purchasing it thus starting a contractual agreement (yes, any sale is a contractual agreement).

It is poor business to delay our purchase just because of their ineptitude. Yes, we have options but if a contract/agreement is established they should honor it.
Maybe you people are used to dealing with irresponsible teenagers that sell their stuff on forums but I find Dell's attitude in very poor taste, and I would expect more from them or from any other reputable dealer.

I hope you guys don't get screwed, Dell called me directly, said that the manufacture isn't going to have them and it would be an estimated lead time of 10 days. You can only charge people 500+ for a graphics card when they are in the category of "will pay anything for the fastest graphics out there". That's only true when it's the newest card. As soon as those 8800's are not the fastest, now all of a sudden you can't hope for the ultra-luxury market. At best you can get the mid range, price-conscious gamer market. Prices will drop a lot as soon as there is something faster.

I also got this email. My original shipping date was the 10th. I ordered the card back on November 24 at around 7pm.

At least it's only delayed till the 17th and at least they bothered to email us updating us on the status of the card and the shipping date. It could be worse as some people were claiming being told the card won't ship till January by Dell CSR's.

Don't get me wrong, I think Dell took more orders then they were could really handle and that could be the result of this. Unless it's another super deal like this, I don't forsee myself ordering anything else from Dell in the immediate future.

If it's just a big deal cancel. Chances are they are backed up on thousands of orders, they WERE the cheapest price posted every which way across the internet. Best Buy sold out on their $249.99 deal online in a day, but Dell kept the $208 deal up for over 2 weeks. That means each shipment they get in is only another day of sales, you could be waiting until early next year before you get the cards.

I don't know why people are furious with Dell. I think they're doing the right thing. When I found a great deal at Fry's and they ran out of stock (it said when I ordered it that they were in stock), they just cancelled it on me and said they would not honor the price. Here Dell is offering to honor the price, even though they don't have more cards yet and don't know what they will cost, and you guys are dumping on them.

It's not like I'm a big Dell guy either. I don't own any Dell PC's (I build my own)... although I'm considering their Ubuntu laptop line if they can get some more options in there and better pricing.

Bottom line is that Dell cannot control when they get these cards. They are being shipped by MSI. MSI can't control it because they are probably waiting on chips from nVidia.

I don't see any reason to cancel the order with Dell until you find a better offer... I would hold onto it until such time as a better offer shows up, unless you need it for a Christmas gift, then I guess I could see paying 100 bucks more to get it fast.

Still, I think it was wrong of Dell to accept so many orders for the card given that supply is so limited. Your average consumer is not going to be happy waiting 2 months to get a product, even if it saves a bit of money! I think it's naive to think that Dell had no idea supply would be so limited. They should have at least warned people that the estimated ship date would probably be 4-6 weeks from date of order.

You are kidding me, you obviously do not know much about supply and demand in the real world, Dell is a global company and should have processes in place to manage their demand planning for efficiently. They kept taking orders and keep filling their pockets with customers good earned money expecting to get their orders fulfilled in a reasonable timeframe. I only found out after I contacted them today at the day they are suppose to ship that they pushed back my ship date by over 30 days, 5, 10, 14 days maybe but over 30 days without any notice, I'm sorry that is not acceptable in a modern age with supply chain ERP systems and supposedly world class customer services.

Their demand planner should get the boot IMO and hopefully they learned some good lessons from this.

i think what MRD is trying to say is that it's cool of dell to effectively give out "rain-checks" for this when most other companies would just say OOS or cancel your order. a little more communication on their end wouldn't hurt though especially for people who needed this quickly.

MRD
12-13-07, 04:32 PM
Exactly djrussel, they are going the extra mile.

Dell is not all knowing, they can't control it if somewhere upstream from them tells them that a shipment will be delayed. It seems they are communicating that to the customers as they learn it. That's the best customer service I can really imagine. I think it's damn cool of them to honor such a fantastic price when they could easily just cancel all the orders.

Makes me more likely to buy a Dell.

Very simple scenario, if you had a store and knew your capacity, let's say 1000 units (if you have a store and don't know what your capacity is you shouldn't be running a business) and you took pre-orders for this particular item and they started piling up.

Dell is on my serious black list. I ordered the MSI card back on 11/24. Three days ago I call to see what is going on with the order status since the site never updates. The Dell rep supposedly expedited my order. I get a phone call the next day from said rep to find out that the DELL REP SOMEHOW CANCELLED MY ORDER and changed it to another order number. In doing so, I dropped to the end of the pile and the order status shows a ship date of 2/20/2008, or basically never.

I would cancel it completely but I also have an XFX card eligible for the paypal 20% that is due to ship on the 19th and I managed to get them to offer me $25 compensation per order for the fiasco via a lengthy live chat Tuesday. The live chat rep just said sorry and that it won't happen again. I had to mention that I am half tempted to cancel both orders and bluntly suggest that Dell should compensate me in order to even get that. IF the XFX card ships, I'll push for the $25 back on it and then cancel the MSI. I wouldn't be surprised however, contrary to the live chat, if Dell refuses the $25 on the XFX card without waiting to receive the MSI card.

I have a BFG card due to arrive here tomorrow from Best Buy so I'll decide later what to do. I'll probably try a return/rebuy with the 10%/12% coupon Saturday. I can return the BFG until the end of Jan, so I figure I'll decide what to do if the XFX actually does show up.

I still can't believe that the Dell rep messed up and canceled my order. Some customer service. I'm just glad that if all else fails the one from Best Buy is on its way.

Then when you get your GPU 3 months later I'm sure new cards will be out and price will drop. Then you can be sad you wasted your time and $200.

I hope they are all the MSI brand as stated in the original deal. I already have a MSI 8800GT from New Egg (for my new PC - see sig). I then figured I would wait for Dell to come through so that I could put them in SLI. If they send an EVGA or XFX one, will I run into problems with a SLI setup with an MSI 8800GT?

If you wait 3 months and the price drops to 200 anyways, then you didn't lose anything... you had to wait 3 months, but you got your card way cheaper than everyone else. Now if I could find a deal where I could get the card at 200 today, I'd cancel my order with Dell, but I haven't seen anything else close. I've been watching Newegg, and the lowest I've seen for the 512mb versions is 280ish.

Patience people!

No, all that matters is if it is the same GPU for SLI

See, I'm not the only one! Lol.

I'm still using a 6800GT. I'm planning a new build soon, but I'm waiting for the technology to get to where I want it pricewise. Stuff always goes down in price right after Christmas, and there is no particular reason I need it before.

I went with the BFG card I ordered online to the store and they did the return/rebuy for me and even refunded the shipping cost. So $210 + tax. Not a bad deal as far as I'm concerned, and not worth waiting for some future date at which these go down more months from now. It is going to take a while before these are even in stock and readily available as they are staying sold out virtually everywhere.

210 is a good deal, plus it's a BFG, so you get a real double lifetime warranty, OC out of the box, and great customer service.

But they don't allow additional overclocking or the stock HSF to be replaced and the card to still be covered. EVGA is the way to go even if they're more expensive. I'll pay extra to have my card warranted if it gets damaged from excessive overclocking and have them still cover it if I slap a different heatsink on there. Oh, and step-up is great too.

Been reeding other forums, same deal all around. No shipments until end of month.

Just as I have posted before, they screwed up by taking too many orders and/or offering such a low price and thus are just going to delay orders until enough cancel to ship a relatively small batch.

Iam going to keep the order going , but looks like I'll be installing the BFG I grabbed from Bestbuy ( for $210) so I can sell my GTS/640mb . Maybe I'll use the MSI one to make a buck or two on ebay or something or do SLi ...god who knows at this point .

At this point, with the shipping delayed till at least the day after x-mas, AND them now asking for "our consent to continue processing the order", it's kind of difficult to argue against this point.

I've noticed that they keep offering discounts and free overnight shipping.

I complained 2 weeks back and they gave me overnight without much of a hassle.

That's when I got worried, hell they can offer you a free card that doesn't mean they'll actually do it.

Point is that I don't think they will ship anything until late Jan or sometime in Feb. Seems far fetched? Just watch them inch their way to those dates.

They can try all they like. I have the power of what every common buyer has, The Better Business Bureau. If they didn't want to sell that many cards at that price then they shoulda cancelled orders, not screw everyone by pushing dates back.

Personally I think it does. If they would have told me that my order was going to be delayed the FIRST time to the 26th I probably would have cancelled then, but to only delay TWICE? come on....

Dell needs to take care their buyers better.

Sounds like more BS to me. What manufacturing plant doesn't know what or how many items they are producing and shipping to?

"We don't know what we have, how many, or when we are shipping them, but I have a feeling it's soon"

Are you serious?

I'm very sure that Dell already has a small batch on hand and is just waiting on enough canceled orders to send them, otherwise they have to send us ALL cards. Which I bet my bottom dollar they won't.

The main point was that there was a shortage on parts. Period. Then Dell decides to oversell on the card without consulting with sales. Then with inventory control not set in their system they get a ton of orders. They contact MSI at which point is out of stock. MSI is scrambling to produce more units, but again, there's a shortage on parts. I'm sure that the first shipment that Dell gets will not fulfill every single order they have on hold. That's why some people are getting ETA dates of next January and such. Depending on when you ordered, you will be served accordingly. They didn't indicate how many they were shipping to Dell, but like I said, It's not gonna be enough. Dell will keep making purchase orders to MSI until they ship out all the orders or enough people cancel em.

I had a long conversation with several sales and CSRs at Dell today--along with lots of hold time in-between...

I called first to confirm that I wanted the order to continue. Then I was transferred to a CSR in order to see if I could get some compensation for the second delay (I haven't bothered to call before as Dell has been keeping me updated via automated e-mails notifying me of the delays.) The first CSR told me that this card was 'delisted' and that MSI was not producing this card any longer and that this card would not likely show up. He suggested that I cancel the order and he would transfer me to sales where I could order an equivalent card for the same price. I told him in no uncertain terms that he was NOT to cancel the order until AFTER such time that I could CONFIRM that I could order an equivalent card at the same price.

I finally got to speak with a sales person who said that the didn't have an equivalent card at the moment, but that (after another hold) when checking my order, explained that the original order WOULD be shipped, but later than 12/26, as stated in my e-mail. I would likely receive my card in the first couple of weeks of January, 2008. Furthermore, she also noted that Dell was getting a shipment of these cards TODAY (12/17), but evidently not enough to fill all the back orders. Again, I asked about compensation and I was once more transferred to customer service.

Well, the new CSR had a little different story to tell. The MSI card is indeed 'delisted' and has been discontinued by MSI, but MSI will still be shipping enough cards to fill all the backorders. Dell was, indeed, receiving a shipment of these cards today, but it wasn't enough to fill all the backorders. However, he did say that these would be shipped out to customers sooner than 12/16 and it was possible that my order might be among them depending upon where I was in the queue. He had no way to know where any particular order was on the priority list and would not even speculate (understandable). However, he said that MSI would be able to fill all the orders placed and that at this time, I should expect my card to be shipped on the date stated in the e-mail (12/26).

Finally, he was able to get authorization for a $25 coupon good for any future Dell purchase or next day shipping, but not both. I chose the coupon and let it go at that.

I'm guessing that MSI is discontinuing this PARTICULAR card in lieu of what would be essentially the same card with the updated cooler (with the bigger, quieter fan). I'll speculate that in the confusion of the cooler change, MSI has probably assigned a new model number to the cards with the new cooler and might have prematurely ended production of cards with the original cooler, or just ran out of the old cooler and had to wait until they could get the new version before resuming production. It will be interesting to see if Dell ends fulfilling all the orders with cards that have the original cooler or if they will receive some of the cards with the updated coolers in order to make good on all the orders.

I will say that all the people I spoke with were congenial if somewhat misinformed and/or confused and tentative in their explanations. Personally, I have no reason to cancel my order as I'm planning on putting this in a Penryn system when those chips become available--so I'm not exactly in a big hurry to get the card in my hands immediately.

I'm not sure if it makes sense to blame any one company in particular here. After all, MSI might have told Dell that they could get them as many cards as they could sell. Also, nVidia might have promised MSI more G92 chips than they could actually make. The manufacturer of the cooling solution (which may or may not be outsourced) might not have come through with the number of units they were supposed to produce, either. There just may be too many reasons a product could be backordered to pin it all on one company.

Maybe Dell promised more than MSI promised them, but maybe not. There's just no way to really know.

The best on Newegg at the moment is 290... so I'd definitely hang onto a 210 if I had one until such time as I found something better... and I'd probably keep squeezing Dell for more discounts too each time they delay.
