Heya guys.

Im working hard on my benching trying out new things, but running into a few obstacles that hopefully you can gimme some advice on....

1. My 8600 GT gives me no points for whatever benches I have run thus far. This is a very competitive category yes, but I feel that I should get something?

Here is the hwbot link for 3DMark05 (http://www.hwbot.org/result.do?resultId=665865). Any ideas why Im not getting any points whatsoever? Im not being compared to everyone running 8600 GTs in SLI am I?

2. I pulled an ATI Radeon 1650 pro 512mb GDDR2 out of one of my computers at work to bench with, and hopefully garner a few points. After a rocky start with the drivers, I have it up and running but there are mulitple issues with this card....
a. I cannot find this card on hwbot. I submitted a score under a dif 1650 pro, but its not the same and I feel its likely an unfair comparison. As I said, this particular 1650 is GDDR2 and 512mb memory (see screenshot (http://www.hwbot.org/result.do?resultId=668107)) but all I find are 256mb cards, or other variations that are not the same. Any help identifying which category I should submit under would be great.

b. Even with the latest ATI drivers, I cannot detect my shader clocks with either Rivatuner or ATItool. Is that not possible with this card? I cant seem to OC it at all with Rivatuner and it says Catalyst detected, so i started using ATItool but my memory clock appears to be off. My card and my box do NOT say that it is overclocked at all, but that memory clock speed is WAY higher than the listed default. If I even try to OC the memory even a pinch it locks up on me. I see others on Hwbot have very similar cards have it OCd to 1000+

Im gonna try to put up some more benches for the Radeon x1650 tonite and garner some more points for me personally as well as OCF, and any input on WTH is going on with this card would be appreciated.

As an aside, I dont understand how some ppl have the cards they list overclocked to the level that they claim (and prove with screenshots!!!). For example, if you browse the 8400 GS series, I see ppl with that card overclocked the core clock to >700 but yet I can only get my 'primo' 8800 GTX to 660 MAX. When I hit 662 It jumps a whole 24 or 27 points or whatever that ratio is and I freeze up.

How is it a lowby POS card like the 8400 GS can acheive clock speeds of 700+ but my 'elite' 8800 GTX maxes at 660?

Thanks again guys!

Also, any way to determine why my 3DMark05 score is SOO low for the 8600 GT?

I see other submission with 8600 GTs which way lower overclocks with higher scores and I cant figure it out either

Hi doc,

OK lets see what we got here :)

1) You need to get into the 14.5K range to start scoring with this card. I searched 8600GT (http://www.hwbot.org/searchResults.do?direction=&applicationId=5&teamId=0&userName=&gpu=GeForce+8600+GT+%28943%29&cpu=&chipset=&model=&manufacturer=&minScore=&maxScore=&gpuId=1082&cpuId=0&chipsetId=0&modelId=0&manufacturerId=0&offset=0&displayAdvanced=true&countryId=0&filterBlocked=true&dateFrom=&dateUntil=&minGpuCoreFreq=&maxGpuCoreFreq=&minGpuMemFreq=&maxGpuMemFreq=&minCpuFreq=&maxCpuFreq=&system=&minTotalPoints=&minPoints=&maxPoints=&minHwPoints=&maxHwPoints=&displayModerator=true&limit=20) and it gives this list of current scores and their points.

2) Are you sure that card is 512mb of memory? Gpu-z may be incorrectly detecing it as DDR3 w/512mb. What does Futuremark say about the card either online or in the system details info?

3) Individual shader clocks are not present on ATI cards.

4) It's all about voltage and cooling. Alot of stuff you see on hwbot is running modified hardware with higher voltage and much better cooling. Some guys are even using Liquid Nitrogen (-196° C) albeit at a warmer temperature than that for various reasons.

I think the real difficulty you're going to have is the AMD factor, while that is a very nice system in benchmarks and most games AMD cannot keep up with a comparable Intel CPU, basically it's going to be hard to reach a level where you can score any points. Granted I say that without doing a detailed search on hwbot, you should search first, see what the competition is (and the clocks they're running) and then decide if it's worth the effort. I know that may be a little bit of a grey area for you so feel free to ask in advance if a particular setup is worth benching.

Maxi, thx for the info.

RE the 8600 GT. I put that card in my main computer (in the sig) and it scored almost the same. I think the P5K Deluxe Q6600 gave me about 200uish more points is all.

I didnt screenie it since I planned on doing more but havnt gotten back to it yet, and just posted the AMD 64X2 one for now since its close.

Are ppl REALLY sing LN2 on say.....1650 pros? LOL

Yes I am 100% positive its 512. Says so on the box, and says so in every program where info is given. Is that a weird GPU in that case? I have the box here Ill take a few pics of it and the card itself for ya if that will help.

EDIT/ADD: Yes I see I need to get higher with my 8600 GT, but.....something must be wrong. P5K Q6600 at roughly 4.05Ghz, ram OCd to 1081 4-4-4-6, and the 8600 gt only got me....like i said like 200-300 more than the AMD rig. Im like 50% off of the pack I cant imagine that the majority of those ahead of me are all voltmodded and running LN2/copper pots/whatever other stuff thats above my head.....Im sure some are (like the top 10-15) but I could be wrong.. You certainly have way more experience than I do.

A few corrections:

3DMark06 with the Q6600/8600 GT combo: http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=3803251

Its about 1000 points more, but still WAY WAY WAY off the pack for 3Dmark06 scores (I know we were previously talking 3DMark05 not 06, but this is what I found on my profile and it gives us SOMETHING to work with for now in the Q6600 system).

Link to futuremark for the x1650 card showing 512 mem. http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=3893744

PS - How did you pull up that 8600 GT hwbot search?

I have been searching another way, but your way is much easier for viewing purposes.....Although...i cant seem to figure it out LOL

I'm pretty sure if you went back and did another set of compares you'd see the Intel rig has a bigger advantage than that. In '06 for sure the quad's will rule as it includes the CPU test in the score calculation. No I don't think anyone's using LN2 on a 1650 Pro ;) have you checked your driver settings? You should be using the following for ATI cards, you can set/check these via Catalyst Control Center - All 3D Settings (Advanced View) pane.

AI - Advanced

Everything else disabled/Performance/Application Preference

On the 8600 (or any Nvidia card) you should do this before benching, right-click menu.

Who makes that 1650 card? I'll add it to hwbot...you'll be the only guy with a score in that catagory for awhile :D

The search I made from this page - http://www.hwbot.org/init.results.search.do

Then just used some advanced paramaters, benchmark, card type, single, filter blocked results. If you partially fill in the card type (or cpu) box then let the database suggest the possible matches, you simply hilight one and hit enter to select it. If you don't do it that way your search may not work as expected ;)

I need to reinstall the Catalyst control center....It gets buggy on me.

The card is made by ATI technologies inc.

You can add a videocard to the hwbot database? Wow......

Being the only 1 in the group.....do I still get points? Do I get a hardware ranking and a trophy if Im the only one?

Yes you would recieve points, there's probably other people with that card and they may have done what you did and went into the other catagory...or the bot placed it there by default. It happens alot actually.
