If I get the large Radial Fin from www.quietpc.com for Socket A Athlon, will it by a heat problem for my cpu? Because my current fan is a Global Win 6800rpm, and my load temperature is 52C.

It doesn't look to great, sorry. It doesn't look like an overclocking approved heatsink and it doesn't give no real specs other than what it supports to. It doesn't give what its made of just explains like if you were a newbie and what a heatsink does.

If I was going to go cooling on AMD I'd defintely have to go with copper cooling from base to full copper.

Can you return it? If you could do it and get something like a Glaciator II, SK6, PAL8045 or something copper.

The c/w rating is kind of high, so you should expect your new temperatures to be in the mid 60's with that heatsink. It's a good heatsink if you want the silence, but there are better, and cheaper, alternatives such as replacing the fan you're using now

By that do you mean keeping my existing heatsink and getting a new fan?

My problem is that I'm disturbed by the loud whining noise of my Global Win, but need something more quiet but not overheat my cpu.

So I guess that flower cooler at www.quietpc.com isn't any good either?

The radial heatsink isn't optimal for overclocking, but it might suffice. My reecommendation would be to keep your current heatsink and try a less powerful fan. If it's still too loud, then you should try the radial one. If you like the noise but don't like the temperatures, then try looking for a better heatsink all together

Defintely that thing is not overclocked approved.

And if your too disturbed by the old noise then you should try looking for a fan adapter and then maybe get a sunon and their 80mm should push the samething as the Delta and in the mid 20's DB.

How does http://www.computeralliance.com.au/partsdetail.asp?qryUserID=Unknown&qryPartID=1102 that fan/heatsink look? Will that cool my CPU properly? It says "silent 5000rpm fan".

Nope, 16-19cfm bro.

And that thing is 50 dollars.

You think you can dish out some more money about 100 dollars for a water cooling setup? It will be efficent and quiet and if you do it right you shouldn't worry a thing about leaks or any of the bullox those people tell you about the risk of the leak.

Happy Holidays!

Watercooling? The thing is I have no idea how to do it, and can only afford about $100 AUD. Isn't watercooling like $200?

Sunon? Isn't that a case fan - how would I attach it? Is it the $16 8cm one here? http://www.gamedude.com.au/cool.html

ThermalTake Volcano 6cu 4500rpm fan Copper Base AMD 1.5gig+

How noisy/effective is this one?

well the 6cu+ is one loud mofo @ 7100 rpms but its kinda quiet @ 7v, dont know the rpm @ 7v

How about the Dragon Orb 3 4900rpm? It seems quiet (31dB) and the air flow is 32CFM. Will that do for my CPU? Or do I have to get the pretty noisy 37dB, 37CFM, 7000rpm? At least the noisy version isn't as noisy as my Global Win FOP38 (38CFM, 46dB).

yeah it cools as well as the 6cu+ their is a review of the 6cu+ @ www.overclockers.com under heatsink reviews or whatever

both r in the .30 c/w ball park

The Volcano6CU (not CU+) comes with a 32cfm fan which should be pretty quiet......the VolcanoII (15 dollars shipped form svcompucycle) will give you temps around 450-50 load so thats decent and pretty quiet when put in a case...i wouldtntget the dragon orb....another alternative is getting an Alpha Pal8045 for 40$ bare heatsink and adding a fan from an old AT Power supply for free.....should cool much better than most other heatsinks out there loud or quiet..

But the Volcano II although very quiet, according to http://www.ocinside.de/index_e.html?/html/results/socketa_fan_test_e.html has 26CFM airflow. And both my Global Win FOP38 and Dragon Orb 3s did better in terms of cooling. I don't know whether or not that site is correct though.

If you follow my rule heatsink for performance and orbs for looks.

The Volcano 6cu+ isn't loud at all.

The 6cu isn't loud either as well!

Although for the same dBA as the Volcano 6cu+ and about 40USD the Millennium Glaciator II is made from 100% copper and a 38cfm 39dBA fan.

If I have access to the Volcano II, Volcano 6CU, Volcano 6CU+, which one should I buy? I want the quietest one that will not overheat my cpu. Remember, my existing load temperature is 52C with a Global Win FOP38 (6800rpm).

I don't understand how it can be overheating, hows the air flow in the case?

If you want maximum performance out of that thing then the 6cu+ although its 39dBA which is moderate loud.

The quiestest is the Volcano II and it is in the high 20 dBA although it really efficent for your AMD.

6cu is exactly the same as the 6cu+ except for it has a quieter fan and pushes 32cfm instead of the 38cfm that the 6c+ pushes

I'd go with the 6cu+ personally. As it will get you to maybe 45 Degrees full load.

Well if I buy the 6CU, what should I expect my new load temp to be? I have two case fans, one at the front, and one near the power supply at the back.

Expect it to be around 47 Celius or so.

By the way if you lap them any of them expect around lower 40 full load probably.

Are you serious? It will perform better than my existing Global Win FOP38 (about 52 Celcius)? But the Volcano 6CU is a slower fan. Does that mean I get better performance AND a lot less noise?

And what's lapping?

To lap- V. the act of fileing, sanding, and just plain smothing a heatsink to a mirror finish, it should also be perfectly flat when you are finnished. I royally suck at it so i tend to not be super aggerssive when i do it. I just try and smooth/falatten it.
