I am in the market for a 360. I was planning on getting the premium holiday bundle but don't mind to wait a couple of more weeks if they are going to be surfacing soon.

I'm pretty sure that they are already out. http://forums.xbox.com/15804553/ShowPost.aspx
Sorry but I do not know if they are in all sku's or only elite or whatnot. That forum should have all the answers though

yeah, they are out now. Here's some tips to help you find one http://forums.xbox.com/15804553/ShowPost.aspx

just the cpu is 65nm, all the heat comes from the GPU. There is an extra heatsink on the gpu now though.

Any word when the graphics chip will be seeing a die shrink?
It figures that it would be an ati gpu getting hot. They really cut down power consumption with the 3870/3850 though.
Does ATI make all the gpu's for the 360? I notice on Newegg only the Elite's mention ATI in the specs.

Yes, ATI makes the GPU for the PS2, GameCube, Wii and 360
Nvidia makes it for the PS3 and Xbox1

Actually the ps2 had it's own Graphics Synthesizer chip. ATI only made the gamecube, wii and the 360s gpu.

While the ATI GPU's may be pumping out more heat than they should, the thing is, microsoft knew about the heat output of the GPU. Hell, they know the heat output of EVERY chip in the 360. so they SHOULD have used an adequate heatsink for the GPU. They just chose to use cheap heatsinks, and in the end, it cost them like 1.2 billion dollars instead.
Would be nice if they did a revision on the GPU as well. but oh well.
But with the CPU revision, and the lower heat output, they should have ( or should ) revise the air duct system that they have in the 360 and have more airflow go over the newly modified GPU heatsink as well. Just saying, since the CPU will pump out less heat, then they can transfer some of the cooling towards the GPU, as they won't need as much with the CPU.

Great link.
I have one of the 90nm CPUs (as does Fudge I suspect) but I have the new GPU heatsinks.
Contrary to that article, and all the others I've read, you don't need to standup your 360 on the side to see it. I have my 360 laying flat and I just pointed a flashlight in one end and looked in the other. I could see all of the components quite clearly.
I see the old CPU with the old heatpipe and the new GPU heatsink.
I agree it was more likely the GPU... not the CPU... that was causing all the RROD. Hopefully Microsoft can get together with ATI and they can do something about shrinking the die.

They are working on the 65nm GPU, they probably won't officially announce when they will be seen in new xboxes though.
There was also talk/rumors of them shrinking the cpu die to 45nm in the next 18months. But that's a long ways away and anything could happen between now and then.

nVidia did the Saturn graphics chips too. :D long live Saturn!

Now all Xbox360 needs is to drop the price $100 to make Sony really sweat. Xbox has the majority of the same games except exclusive Halo3, Oblivion, G.O.W and a handful of others. What does Sony have yet? Rachet and Clank? I suppose the story will change when Turismo 4 hits but as far as the better videogame console 360 seems primed at least for another year.

Oblivion is not exclusive and it's Gran Turismo 5/HD, 4 was for the PS2.

You forgot Folding@home, that's a console exclusive on PS3. :p

The GPU die shrink will be next year August 08 occording to the company that produces the 360.

Oh yeah forgot Oblivion was on PS3. Folding is exclusive to PS3 I'll give you that and Sony actually encouraging linux on their system that is nice compared to 360. You know what I mean though, Gran Turismo is exclusive to Sony. What else does Sony have? Final Fantasy....maybe. What is it that makes PS3 so much better? 1080p, Blueray, free access to PS3 network and built-in wifi seem like the major advantages.
I know it's nothing more than a gimmick but the ps3 has touch sensitive buttons. The six axis controller feels to fragile to me though. I miss having the weight of the force feedback unit from the dual shock controller. Tekken 6 will pwn I think, so the ps3 does have some things going for it.
his is what I am thinking, and tell me if I am wrong, since I am brand new to consoles sines the Super Nintendo. "Santa" has decided to bring me an Elite bundle. I did call one of Santa's elf's and ask her to look at the sticker on the box and tell me the info. Turns out to be NOT a Falcon but being an Elite, it will have the GPU cooler. It is one of the retagged Elites that was repackaged with the 2 game bundle. (The link above explains what I mean, and this seems to be quite common with the Elite). But since I never spend hours gaming and also have my PC, with the extra GPU cooler and the 3 year RROD warranty, I don't see what there is to loose by it NOT being a Falcon. I have 3 years for it to go bad and I have my PC if it does. Am I wrong in my thinking?

No you're not wrong, but is really will **** you off if/when you have to be without it for 2-3 weeks while it's enroute to and from the repair center.

i just found an interesting article from a month ago about:
http://blogs.mercurynews.com/aei/2007/10/xbox_360_secrets_after_falcon_comes_jasper.html
i wonder if it worth the wait for a smaller GPU core on top of the cpu core. it seems the CPU though is what was having problems even though the gpu produced alot of heat i am not finding many reports of failing 65nm cored consoles. mabe it was a combination of two 90nm cores right next to each other and now on off sets the heat to acceptible levels? who knows.
what do you guys think? wait for 65nm GPU too or go with just a 65nm cpu?
on top of waiting i cant find any 20 gig systms and rumor has it every console is now shipping 65nm cores
if it was a PC i would wait but only to overclock the new core but its not a pc....almost though

I'd go ahead and get one now, just make sure it is a model with HDMI so you get the extra heat sink. The source of the heat problems is definitely the GPU not the CPU. That's what eventually died on my first 360. I think it's safe to say that the Xbox3 will be going back to Nvidia.

It'll have to: ATI no longer exists as an independant company. And I'll be damned if Microsoft's going to put an AMD cpu in their next console...

True, I had forgotten that they got bought up by AMD.... Just as well, AMD really ****ed Microsoft with their GPu, but to play devils advocate MS should've made design changes even if at last minute to make up for AMDs hotter than the bowels of hell GPU.

Oh and, to the guy who asked, if you want a 360 just get one now. As long as it has the new cooling, and even my 7-7-07 system does, you should be fine.
Now to look into this HDMI nonsense...
