thought id get more responses here, i have a toshiba laptop with a 1.5 mobile celeron, well my girl does, anyway, toshiba says this proc is not upgradeable, they also told me 512 ram is the most it can take , which is pretty lame..........if i were to try a higher speed proc what would happen? how high could i try? and also, how do i know what socket it is, or are all mobile celerons same socket? it is under one of the ram cards with a vinyl jacket wrapped around it, i assume this is to protect it , it presses straight down into socket which is on underneath left hand side of proc, and it has a 3 or 4 pin connection on right side.............

did some poking around , all i see are 1.6, 1.8 or 2.2 mobile celerons

can you download cpuz,www.cpuid.com and post the motherboard tab in a ss?
as well what is the model of the cpu. some mobile proc are soldered in so it is possible you cant upgrade it... though i highly dought this is the case, as the soldered ones are used for low power system, IE ULV cpus from intel.

well it seems im wrong, what i thought was the proc under one of the ram sticks via the removable panel on back is actually the internal modem, i guess i would have to take it completely apart to get to proc....................

It uses the Northwood. My old Toshiba Satellite laptop (A45-S121) had a 2.8GHz Northwood in it.
I would say that the motherboard will support any of the Northwood series...but I don't take responsibility in buying it and having it not work.
Try posting in the Toshiba community support forums.

Make sure You get one of the 400fsb models, the 533 or 800fsb ones may not work correctly in the laptop.

ill open her up and see if the cpu is removable, go from there, if it is, how big of a jump should i try? im thinking 1.5 to 2.7 is bound to not work, does heat become a problem ?

blue = chipset
red = cpu
yellow i= how the heat from the cpu is sucked out.

Yes the CPU is the other side. I guess they want to make it awkward for you.

aw geeze, looked like the cpu to me, arrow on corner and everything, argh, guess ill take it back apart and look at the cpu some more lol, no need to take mb out and flip it over is there? if its removable i should be able to pop it up correct? i know socket A has a litle handle, not familiar with socket 478

that hs has 4 screws, yea you might need to take he mobo out. as if im right the cpu is mounted under that pcb for the heatpipe cooler. to release the cpu you need a flat tipped screw driver. as the when you see the socket there is a metal round part where you turn count clock wise to release and clockwise to hold in place. it should be that way i havent seen the p4's in a lappy it might just be a really small lever like the desktop 478's.

eh , im not gonna do all that work twice, its so cheap i might as well buy a proc and try it once, if it doesnt work ill have to do it twice then anyways, i see 2.0,2.5,2.7 g celeron northwoods with 400fsb socket 478...............think a 2.7 would work? or is that pushing it
also, why does it not look like a cpu under that hs? its not smooth like a normal cpu , is it hidden under what you call pcb? what is that term?

PCB is the what they call the board
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Printed_circuit_board
actually what it is, is to direct airflow like that. a laptop has limited space by flipping the cpu upside down. they can then make a airduct move the heat away from the cpu like that with out the hot air moving into the other places of the laptop where it doesnt need to be.

huh, i was gonna say is it upside down but then i thought how is it in socket if it is? i wont hurt it by trying a 2.7 ya think?
Evilsizer

i would go for the 2.4ghz..........
