i'm wondering if this is an isolated problem, or if there are others with me on this. i seem to be having some odd problems with windows xp pro and games. quake3 hasn't given me too much trouble, but all of the menus in madden2002 are terribly slow, and i've been having problems exiting out of counter strike (also locks up any time i hit the escape key) . i've tried reinstalling all of them, and get the same results afterwards. any ideas here? i'm running the newest nvidia drivers (23.11 or maybe an extra decimal or two). i'm not too swift with games, but i guess i like to toy with them now and then. tia guys
I'm running XP home, and the only problem I have had so far was with Tribes 2, fixed with the download and install of the newest drivers from Nvidia.
Don't know what to say. Perhaps it's some other hardware that Microsloth's built in drivers just can't handle as well. Audio? Chipset (stretching it a bit, but who knows)?

Everyone I game with that put in xp pro are going back to 98se for the fact that xp pro is not a good gaming system, maybe future games will run good but.......

yea i got xp home and i get a lot of problems in cs but i dont like 98 se either so i guess i am kinda stuck. Hopefully there will be a fix for xp that will help in stability in games. I mean i just got a 9500 pro and i cant play my fav game with it. That majorly sucks imho.
I have XP pro but I havn't had real problems with it yet.
A game that gave some problem (I'm not surewhat game that was) did better after getting newer vidio driversant turning on the win98 compatebilety mode.
I like XP a lot better than win98 :)

xp is better IMO than 98SE but they both have problems. BF42 gives me a insuficient virtual memory alert !!!! so I hafta reboot after playing. My pro aps (photoshop, autocad, 3D max) have no problema with XP so I guess its all in the games dept.
BTW: Win 98 compatability mode is an App found in Start menu=> Programs => Accesories.
One of the interesting/irritating problems is that XP is build more around a NT kernel.
And Some games just hate NT kernels.
Could having an NTFS patittion in sted of a FAT32 be a problem?
XP can handle both that much I know

Wanting compatability mode for just that one game you like so much?
Right mouse click on where you would start it. => properties=> compatabilety.
Than you can choose between:
win95
win 98/win ME
win NT 4.0 (sp5)
win 2000
Keep in mind that Microsoft is not into miricals (like we all know after hitting a blue screen once again) but this usualy fixes my problems.
For what it does.
Umm.. in details I don't exactly know.
But it trys to convince the game that it runs un whatever OS you have selected.
I play Mechwarrior, Morrowwind,MOH, Dungon seage,NWN, Gost Recon and now Freelancer and sofar I have not had any problems with them.
If you are haveing problems it could be that your OC is too high back it down some and see if that helps.
the only game i am having problem running is gta3 on windows xp sp-2
which mode are you running CS on? d3d or opengl??? try changing video modes and see if it helps, CS is the game which never gave me any problems on either windows 98 SE or windows xp

This can be fixed by adjusting your virtual memory to accomadate more. By giving your virtual memory more space you wont encounter this problem.

Does the task manager say the game has stopped working?
Does the sound still go on as it should?
Becouse if the game has stopped it can always be a bug in CS or winxp.
If the game stopped functioning then that might couse your screen to go black
Couldn't it?
shouldn't the makers of counterstrike come up with updates for that?

Well i installed the cs mod for HL instead of the retail cs and it works great now. I dont know why but it does. I only need to press esc and then reenter the game and it works. Even alt tab now works =) HEy Bon3thugz43v3r hope this helps you out too man. also try using the 3.1 cat drivers.
