Recently I checked out the Overclock Your Graphics Card in 5 Minutes (http://www.tomshardware.com/2007/11/23/overclock_your_graphics_card_in_five_minutes/) article on Tom's.
I've had my evga 7600GT oc'd for over 1yr stable @ 620/1.54 via coolbits. My temps under load stay pretty cool at around 55degC. I'd like to try a voltage increase but DO NOT want to do the pencil voltmod. Changing the voltage via nibitor and then flashing with nvflash seemed like a better idea.
Has anyone used nibitor to softmod the voltage and what were your results?
I searched the forums but didn't find anything specific re: this scenario.
Any ideas?

Here it has been done successfully with the new 8800 GT...LINK (http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=535007)
Should work for your card as well....note that any mods are done at the risk of the owner

you kno i have been wondering the same thing with my 7600gt... the bios has a 4th VID entry for 1.4v thats disabled by default but i dunno if the hardware is able to go to 1.4v, maybe Viperjohn can enlighten us but i dunno if hes mess with a measily 7600gt
if i have time a little later ill mod the bios for my 7600gt for 1.4v over the stock 1.3 and see what happens.

Thanks fellas.
I'm eager to see what I could get... keeping a mindful eye on the temps of course.
I like the fact that you can select different voltages in nibitor for 2d and 3d modes individually.
In have to check in nibitor tonight but I recall seeing the ability to select upwards of 1.5volts. Now weather or not it'll let me flash to that is another thing entirely. I may start tinkering around with JUST THE VOLTAGE after re-checking my current frequencies in coolbits and running a bench or two.
What load temp do you guys start to consider a bit too toasty? The article on Tom's (http://www.tomshardware.com/2007/11/23/overclock_your_graphics_card_in_five_minutes/page6.html) says "As a rule of thumb, the GPU should never get hotter than 90°C under 3D load. Temperatures of 40°C to 50°C are considered cool, 60° to 80°C normal. In 2D mode, the temperatures should be between 40° and 60°C"... you guys agree? As it stands, I have quite a ways to go before I start hitting my safe thermal ceiling.

ya thats a good rule of thumb... although the cooler the better.

From my experience if you go above 80 C you will tend to see artfacting in any case, so the cooler the better and the higher the OC

ya bios vmod aint gonna work on this card just spend 30 min playing with voltage entries and it never strayed from the stock voltages
look like ur gonan have to pencil mod, which is REALLY REALLY easy if you have a multimeter.

crap, oh well.
Thanks nd4 for trying this out. I am pretty handy with my multimeter so I guess I'll just do the hardmod and be done with it.
On another topic, I just upgraded from the 93.71 ForceWare to the newer 163.75..... I find it extremely gay in general... especially that:
1. Coolbits doesn't work. I knew this going in though... Any suggestions which tool I should use as a replacement to change my clocks?.... Powerstrip?
2. You now have to install freaking nTune to get temps, they're no longer visible in driver settings!!! wtf?
Should I just rollback my driver to the last release that supported coolbits?... Any idea which ForceWare version that would be?

Well, I installed the latest rivatuner 2.06 (http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=163#download) released 11/2/07. It installs just fine and reports everything properly. I'll be trying it shortly to see if my clock changes stick.
One a good note, the new forceware drivers upped my 3dmark score BY 40 points. Nothing to throw a party about, but It'd be the end of the friggin' world if they lowered them by even a few points, so I'm happy :bday:.
Just finishing a few passes at complete card defaults of 580 and 1.5. Now I'll see how much higher I can go vs. the 93.71 drivers.
