View Full Version : Finally OC'ing the ancient 8800GTS 320MB A2

So I just picked up an HR-03 Plus and decided to do real OC'ing on my BFG 8800GTS (A2 revision :().

The stock clocks were 576/1350/837. I overclocked it earlier on stock cooling to 612/1512/900 after getting depressed about the 8800GT's ownage. :bang head

Now with the HR-03 Plus...I first up'ed the ROP until my comp froze during ATITool's Artifact Scanner. I hit 648, which seemed normal for A2 (was hoping for 672). Then I up'ed the shader in the same way. I hit 1620, which seemed on the high-end for A2, I was pretty happy about that. Then I did the memory...I was only able to hit 945 . I see others' A2's usually going to 975 or 999.

So my current OC is: 648/1620/945 (testing 972 memory...seems to be working fine in 3DMarks and Crysis...not in ATITool)

I just wanted to get some opinions on this, should memory be able to go higher? Is my OC method bad? I can't search the forums with "A2" since the minimum characters per word is three. Do boards tend to balance out the rop/shader/memory numbers? (i.e. my 648/1620/945 would be "normal/high/low"...averaging out to normal/normal/normal)

Additional question below...

Thanks. Sounds like I should be happy with these numbers.

Another question regarding ATITool's artifact scanner...

Does it give error or crap out almost always at some point during the run? For example, the above numbers seemed to be fine yesterday. But I left the scanner running while I was at school and apparently my comp froze with stuff all over my screen after 1h 20min. Is it almost guaranteed to do that eventually during the run, if left running for a long enough period of time?

And if that is true (or partially true), does that mean I can get a stable clock that ATITool will crash on, but 3DMarks and games do not?

648 core is good for an A2. My A2 can bench @ 648, but starts to crap out after like 2 hours of crysis @ 648.

thats about where my old 320 topped out. wish this gtx would do 648 reliably, or even partially.

Not too shabby for a 320 :) My 640 is @ 660/1528/975, but this is with the core & shader sync'ed. I might have to redo the clocks individually to see if i can get the shader higher.

Yeah, that ram clock is pretty bad, but if it makes you feel better my new 8800GT can't do any better (940). I was able to hit 1080 on my 8800gts 640 A3 memory, wish my 8800GT could do that.

The rest of your clocks look good and should give you nice boost in games.
