Hi Ohgr, welcome to the Forum,
For me the best HeatSinks are the ThermalRight SK6 with a Delta38Cfm fan, or better a Delta50Cfm (very noisy@12v, tollerable @7v), a Millenium Glaciator II, an Alpha Pal8045 or a Swiftech MCX462, but for the last two, you have to check the compatibility with your Mobo, coz sometimes there isn't enough room around the socket.
I hope it helps you ;)
I second all TheDoors recommendations. Although in this order:
Swiftech MCX462 - Noisy, Best HSF
Alpha PAL 8045
Millennium Glaciator
ThermalRight SK6
They are all copper and they are all loud so caution that.

The Glaciator II is indeed copper, but it is not, repeat not at all loud. The one I have on my Tbird 1@1.5 is very quiet and keeps the proc at 43c load w/1.87v

By looking at the review from the overclockers database it was measured at a whooping 62dBA which is fairly loud anything basically over 45dBA is loud enough for me!

Wonder if we're talking the same HS/F? I mean, the Delta 38cfm is only 46.5dBA. So 62dBA would be outrageously loud.
The final Specifications are:
.16C/W Sink to Air - This is a bench test with a simulated heat source on a 9X11 mm die.
Fan - AVC 2 Ball Rated @ 29 CFM free flow. MTBF is 50,000 hrs. 2.88 W 5700 RPM +/- 10% . 36 dBA
Heat sink - 99.99 pure copper @ 385 W/m-K., Weight is 615 grams.
Includes .6gm Arctic Silver II Premium Thermal compound
Andrew Lemont
the glaciator is definitely not 62 dba, its very quiet.

You know...
If you wanna spend about 11-13 Dollar's with shipping....
And decrease your tempature by 4-6C, Get your self a Delta Fan, pop it on ur Heatsink.. And theres ur new fan, Instead of getting a WHOLE new heatsink and what not.
Also you dont have to risk crackin ur processor putting on the heatsink, Just a hassle you dont have to do.
-Delta-
7000 RPM...
Small, And Throws about as much air as about a 120mm...
Peace..

For future reference, I mailed JoeC about the info in that and other articles. His noise readings will be substantially higher than those released by manufactureres and some other reviewers. This is because he takes his readings at 8" from the fan, whereas most others read from 3'.
So, yes. The Glaciator II would be loud if you placed your ear within the case next to the fan. However if you have your case sitting a foot or two from you, it is a very quiet thermal solution.
Cool thanks for the HSF name lists, but I don't know any good UK sites to order from. I usually order from Dabs but they don't seem to have any of the HSF's you listed there. I'll go and see if I can find these HSF's myself but if anyone has a recomended UK stockist sites I'd be very gratefull ( my cpu was running at 60c+ when playing quake 3 yesterday  ).
OK I just found www.overclock.co.uk , they stock loads of cooling products...looks great fo overclocking so far. I'll make small list of some of the HSF's I my buy and post it here for you to look at and tell me which would be best. Only if you want to that is :D
Thanks all.

My CAK38 was making me deaf and if I had to deal with that clip again
Let us know how u make out

You can take a look here (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/) too ;)
I hope it helps you, Ohgr :)
So, which one of these should I go for ? They are kind of expencive but in the comming months I'll be buying a 1.4gig athlon and hopefully one of these would work with overclocking it.
-OcUK Super ThermalRight SK6 (Socket A/FC-PGA) (HS-001-TR)
-ThermalRight SK6 (Socket A/FC-PGA) (HS-000-TR)
LINK >Thermalright sk6 (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Online_Catalogue_Other_CPU_and_System_Coolers_18.h tml#a65)
This was recommended earlyer, Its the same price as the others but it has a differant mounting system, dunno if this will fit on my MB?
-Alpha PAL8045 - Thunderbird/Duron (Socket A) (HS-000-AL)
Alpha PAL8045 (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Online_Catalogue_Alpha_CPU_Coolers_28.html)
Ok I read a few reviews and decided to go with the -OcUK Super ThermalRight SK6- now lets hope its as good as they say it is :D
Thanks everyone for the help! No doubt I'll be back with more questions heh :)

Personally I'm using a SK6 on the XP1700+ system@1.6Ghz 1.8v and I'm very satisfied of the cooling performance, with the Delta50Cfm fan@7v the temp @full load are never above 36-37 degree C.
For sure the Alpha Pal8045 it's another great HeatSink, but you have to check the Mobo compatibility with the actual & the next Mobo that you will get :) take a look here (http://www.micforg.co.jp/mb_inf_pal8045e.html) for more info.
Defintely you'll be happy with your SK6 although I woud recommend you finding an AMD shim so those copper things dont crush your core.
Copper heatsinks are quite heavy and the AMD core is more sensitive.
aah I can't find a shim on any UK web site :( what is it and where do I get one.

It's something that prevents heavy objects to crush the core of the CPU thus killing the chip altogether.
I don't know if http://www.heatsinkfactory.com ships to the UK but if someone can follow up this post if they ship international it would be great.
The shims are under "CPU Spacers."
Oh well, spoke to soon! I found a shim, cost me £6 hhmmm better be worth all the money. Oh I also ordered 512 megs extra ram :D yey

Whats all the ram for!
Where did you order it off good price dude.
I ordered it from Crucial.com ( best place I could find for using my switch card ) and the rams for my artwork in adobe photoshop. I'm doing big artwork ( A3+ 300dpi images ) at the moment for print.
