View Full Version : I'm not getting credit for both C2D machines

I don't quite know what is up but my per WU points are consistant with what I've come to expect but it looks like only one C2D machine has been getting credited the last few weeks.

Is that passkey thing biting me in the arse somehow? (I've never used or enabled it in the config)

Did you copy the installation from one box to the other? If you did, you should delete the queue.dat and the config file and start from scratch to get a unique machine id.

Well thank heavens you can still smile about it! :D

I'd change my notepad font to "terminal", and open up the client.cfg file and just see if everything was looking right, especially the funny-looking Unix newline char's. Stanford's servers are rather picky about them.

You've looked into your log file and checked that these wu's were returned after being fully folded, right?

If that looks perfect, I'd write down ALL the suspect WU data: project number, run, generation, etc., and the date and time it was returned to Stanford. Then one of the forum mod's from Stanford can check on it.

I haven't registered yet for a passkey either, and have had no problems, so far.

Hmm, I wondered where those extra WU's were coming from. :)

I agree, if you copied the install, then you might have copied the Machine ID, in which case, it would get confused.

I don't think it is the passkey, though.

I don't think the v6 client will run without using the passkey. If you're using the 5.91 beta client, the passkey is not needed. Perhaps it's just the mix of work units that's bringing your ppd down; I know that my machines frequently gag on and spit up the p3043's....

v6 should run without the passkey. PM 7im with the suspected missing WUs. He can also send you a dump listing all machines that have returned WUs in the last 30 days. The info includes Machine ID, IP, OS, and WU data including points awarded on the last returned WU.

v6 should run without the passkey.

That is news to me, but right you are...Passkey FAQ (http://folding.stanford.edu/English/FAQ-passkey)

So, I wonder. If I created a new folding name but used my same Nec_Clocker passkey, what would happen?

If you create a new folding name and acquire a new passkey using the same email address, it gives you a different passkey.

I did copy the VM from one to another machine and changed the machine ID in config.

I also deleted everything except the edited config file, client and core.

And this lost credit issue started some weeks after I did the changeover.

The original VM crashed and burned beyond repair so I copied a working VM over the LAN.

If they ever try to enforce that passkey in the future, I'll find something else to do with my computers.

I don't know 7im well enough to bother him with my issues and quite frankly I just don't have the time to screw around with all the detective work involved.

I'll just blow everything away and start over on this machine.

I'll take the hit on the 50 uncredited SMP WUs and move on.

Here's a thought: Your two C2D rigs(the 2 in your sig, I presume) are producing a 24 hr. average of just over 2000 points. While I was on vacation for 10 days, the two quad rigs I left running were producing just over 4000 points on average, for 24 hours. Since one Q6600 roughly equals two E6xxx's of the same clock, your production looks to be(to me) comparable.

Hope that made sense, but that's what it's looking like, to me.

Normally you could request a WU check on the FC forum. Since it's been down, moderator 7im has been a lot less busy. He volunteered to help folks and is more than willing. He gave me a database list of all my rigs just today so I could try to find the ones that aren't getting credit, if any. A simple check of the logs could eliminate the duplicate WU possibility. Ask 7im, he doesn't bite, at least not very hard. :D

On the linux VM, I think you'd have to have deleted machinedependant.dat to be assigned a new User ID.

Give 7im a WU in this format: Project: 2621 (Run 10, Clone 58, Gen 2) and he can copy/paste it into the search engine.

I blew everything away except the compressed original FAH installation package.

Then I untarred it and started up the client with the -configonly flag to generate the config.

Restarted with the -smp and -verbosity 9 flags and now it's folding again.

My PPD was ~3k a couple of months ago but dropped off to ~1700 PPD lately with only one WU per day mostly reporting.
