My optical mouse has been giving me problems. When I play games like Operation Flashpoint my targeting reticle is not very accurate. Its like it goes in sections. Its not smooth.

using a mouse pad?

Is it USB? If so, get an adapter to plug it in to your PS2 port and see if it improves any.

Its a USB MouseMan Optical. You know, the big blue curvy one. ANd plugging it into a PS/2 port didn't do much.

try changing the batteries and reinstalling the drivers. if that doesn't help cleaning the optical sensor with a small brush.

Well, I reinstalled the drivers and its not a wireless mouse. And the optical sensor is clean.

Go to your control panel and see if you have refresh rates or anything like that.. play with them some.. I uped mine and its been working alot better...

Check Shadow's post again. Sometimes the surface you use it on will cause the mouse to not track smoothly. I'd also leave it plugged in the ps2 port as there's an IRQ reserved exclusively for the mouse. It helps when you start adding in other cards and things.

Make sure its not on a black surface.

Try using it on the desk surface.

Check the games control options. Try upping Flashpoint's mouse sensitivity.

My accuracy of my optical mouse was much better when I got a hold of a white surface to use it on.

Apparently a slightly rougher mouse surface works best with optical mice although I haven't got round to purchasing one yet to test this.

Recommended surfaces I've heard about are:

Everglide Giganta
Ratpadz (Heard this is the best with optical mice...)
3M Precise Mousing Surface

I've not tried these but apparently they make all the difference to accuracy. I'm intending to get a RatPad to go with my Intellimouse Optical although I'm struggling to get one in the UK at the moment.

Check out the comparitive reviews at the below:

http://www.sharkyextreme.com/games/hw/articles/mousepad_comp/

Heres a quick quote from the review:

"However a quick spin with an Intellieye confirmed that the Ratpad/Intellieye combo worked very well indeed. "

Hope this helps...

Will.

Well, I know its not the mouse pad for I have a Ratpadz... Plugging it into the PS/2 port offered very little improvement. After installing the Logitech mouseware it got quite a bit better. But then the scroll wheel. stopped working in games and was very crappy for scrolling through web pages. The most likely culprit is the software within Win2k. After doing some checking, USB, sound card, video card, and NIC are all on the same IRQ. It all seems OK just doing normal stuff. It also works ok in RTCW. But in OPeration flashpoint it just doesn't wanna be very accurate. It doesn't make it any better when I up the sensitivity in OPeration Flashpoint either. :(
