I was just about to purchase this Seagate HDD (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148262) when I noticed in the reviews a talk about the firmware and how people got stuck with the AAK. I did some researched on this infamous situation but what's the probability of me getting one with the AAK? Don't really want to go through the hassle of RMA, it seems Seagate is reluctant on refunding people for it.
P.S. How do you check for the firmware of a hard drive?
The top big label on the drive, there is a word "firmware" on it ! ;)

HDTune (http://www.hdtune.com/).
Check the Info tab for the drive in question and it should list the firmware used. Without having the drive physically in your system you'd have to go by the Newegg reviews.
I got lucky (I think) and landed a AAA-firmware ST3250410AS drive, and it's plenty fast. I bought it a couple months ago though. Supposedly this isn't the best firmware for the drive but it checks out better in HDTach than my NS 250's.
I did create a thread to discuss the issue, maybe you might check it out HERE (http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=525290). ;)
Personally, I'm not sure my self since they show mixed bag results.

I guess I'm going to take a shot in the dark and pray for the best. :eh?: Thanks though, I'll refer to that thread from here.
