Once Vista releases service pack 1 and newer directx 10 drivers come out, along with newer video card drivers, we'll we see an improvement on how games run on Vista? Can we expect things like higher fps in games such as Crysis?
Vista seems very demanding at the moment
god I hope so or i will never move to that OS full time, looks like sp1 doesnt do anything to improve gaming as of right now.
If there is an improvement, I'll finally move to the Ultimate 32 bit dvd I've been holding on to for nearly 6 months now.

I would highly doubt it, haven't heard of anything like this.

Well in what way is service pack 1 going to improve this gas guzzling OS? Keeps my HD spinning nearly all the time and saps game performance

I get basically the same framerates in Vista that I didn in XP if I turn off Anti-Aliasing. They should be able to come out with some sort of patch or fix for that... it seems like a driver issue to me.

Dont worry, it will improve.. XP had the same issues back in the day and their still improving it.. So think of it like this... by the time the next windows OS comes out Vista should be fine tuned enough to run it decently.

XP Played games fine in the begining. I used it pre service packs and it ran much like it does now with some games.

But what I am asking this.
Will service pack improve how effecient Vista runs itself? Right now it guzzles memory, cpu and harddrive more then nessecary it seems.
As far as games improving in perfomance and look, would not better video drivers and updates to direct x as developers become more familiar with Vista help a lot in the area of gaming?

Its not all Microsoft's fault, which is why the service won't help much. Its as much a driver issue with Nvidia, ATI, etc... as it is a Vista issue.

Right now it guzzles memoryThis is FUD. Vista uses most of the free memory to make things faster. The memory isn't tied up and will be released instantly on demand.
The HD issues will hopefully get cleared up in SP1. The heavy usage dropped off after a few days of installation for me but there is always rhythmic short flashes on my machine due to running VMs in the background.
As for the excessive CPU usage, I don't notice any slowdowns vs XP in most applications but I have a C2D and 2GB of RAM.
Vista is indeed a heavier OS than XP just like XP was heavier than 2000 and that was heavier than 98 or NT4, etc.
