I've just installed a new RAID 0 array of 2x Maxtor 160gb SATA drives, and Im getting a wierd problem. Ive installed XP Pro fine, and all the motherboard drivers off the CD are on and running. I went to download new drivers from the Nvidia site for my gfx card, and when I went to install them I got a message saying the file was corrupt. I downloaded the file again and same thing happened, so I got the beta drivers and the same happened, so I went to the Aopen site as thats the manufacturer of my card and guess what, that file had the same problem. I found a DVD that came with a PC magazine with the drivers on it, and that installed without any problems. Also I downloaded openoffice with Java and it installed ok but then later when it tried to update java, again I got a corrupt file error. Could this be the RAID arrays fault? Thats the only thing Ive changed on my system so Im inclined to blame it. The setup is as in my sig apart from obviously the hard disk is now 2x maxtor 160gb diamondmax drives as I mentioned. Any help is welcome on this one, Thanks, George.

That may be your ethernet controller crapping the bed!

Also, may be a bad modem or line. You may want to check your ISP.

Also, likely because of unstable RAM! Unstable RAM can cause file corrupted error messages.

Because of the stuff I heard about Micron D9 chips, if you have Micron D9-based RAM, I'm afraid that your RAM is bad.

Also, this can occur if you're infected with the W32.Pinfi virus. File corrupted error messages are a classic sign of that virus.

Its the first time Ive had a problem though, and it only started after this reinstall. I suppose I could stick a PCI one in and see if theres an improvement.

Well Im back looking for advice again. I went back to my original install of XP on a single disk and the system was fully stable. I then went and ran the maxtor diagnostic on both of my 160gb drives and they passed the long and short test, although for some reason SMART said they were at 230c which Im pretty sure is a bug or something since they havent melted into a pool of death. Anyway I went back and installed XP onto the 2 160Gb in RAID 0 with 32K stripe size (I dont know what the best size is but I thought I would try 32K), and the file corruption is back on any downloaded files. Since nothing other than the drive setup has changed before the problems, it has to be related right? I really dont get how it can get through a whole XP install without a single problem, then give up on downloading a file. Has anyone seen this before at all?

Found out what it was :D I hadn't actually been doing everything the same, I'd been installing the Nvidia firewall when I ran the drivers CD that came with the motherboard after the install. The firewall was somehow corrupting the files and causing crappy download speeds. I won't be using that software again
