Hi, I'm new at this overclocking and never done it.

I'm willing to overclock my CPU just a bit. Do I just need to increase the CPU Frequency in the BIOS? Right now, it's set at 133Mhz. What other factors am I missing other than watching the CPU temperature ?

please help a newbie here
thanks

A7A266 1007 Bios
AMD Athlon 1.o Gig 266Mhz
256MB DDR PC2100 Micron

If your planning on raising your FSB above 133MHz, you may need to adjust your CAS settings on your memory. You can usually find memory settings in "Advanced Chipset Settings" in most BIOS'. If you see a 2, then you might want to chenge the setting to 3 to assure your memory can handle the higher fsb.

If you have a good cooling setup, and you decide to really crank up your fsb down the road, you may need to adjust the VIO voltage in your BIOS. If you plan on unlocking and raising your multiplier, you may need to raise your Core voltage.

Be sure you have proper cooling before you start messing with voltage. a little bump in FSB will surely get your blood pumping and seal that future Heat sink purchase...allowing you to reach higher speeds. Happy overclocking. Welcome to the club! :D

Welcome to the Madness!

There are a bunch of beginner's guides HERE (http://www.overclockers.com/) that will give you a lot of the information you are looking for; its a real good idea to read 'em before you overclock!

My thoughts on Overclocking :
Its a lot of fun
Its a lot of work
It may NOT save money in the long run: (higher quality ram, heatsink, etc!)
I get a lot of satisfaction out of it: extra power, cheap
It is dangerous to a CPU!

Take your time, don't rush! The more you know about what you are doing, and why, makes a mistake that much LESS likely!

The #1 enemy is HEAT! Make sure your system's temps will take some overclocking before you start!

Don't let me scare you off though :D , with some caution, OCing is fairly safe and trouble-free.

And when you get that extra 200 mhz (or so) you will be rewarded!

haha

Thanks you guys..sounds a little dangerous here. but it is getting interesting. :) :) :)
I have increased it to 1100Mhz and set the memory timings to 2T.

Just 1 question. How do you "Unlock" so I can raise the multiplier?

thanks again and Merry X-Mas and happy Holidays~!

just use a lead pencil and connect all the L1 bridge. work for most people and it work for me. I cut my board up to add jumper for multiplier and reconnect them by using the pencil.

always work.
