Some people told me it wasn't worth the upgrade. However, with my current system below (showing 6600GT) I scored 624 in the newest version of 3dmark06 OCed to 550/1100

Upgraded (73 dollars) to a 7600GT, not OC yet, will try tonight, and after my new zalman gets here, 3329.

Pretty huge jumped and im quite satisfied. However, I see another with the same system at almost 6000.... Wonder what his clock speeds are.

However, I do wonder if it would of been better to skip on the zalman 700VF and just bought a 100 dollar card isntead.

Currently Idels at 50º and load at 61º which from my 660GT with the zalman 700 idle at 61º and load at 67º

You would need to have one hell of a card to get 6000 with a 7600GT, hell it takes some overclocking on my 7900GT to get 6000. And I have a 24pipe card vs your 12 and 256-bit memory vs your 128-bit.

I was going by the website compairsons. there were systems with a score around mine, 3 in the 3000, 1 in the 4000 and 1 5900+. The 5900+ system was also using a 7600GT and opteron 165. However, I wonder if the CPU can make that much of the difference. I dont use volt mods, so my cpu maxed out at 2.24, while others get upwards 2.7. We also had the same ram, 2 gigs.

he might of been running SLI to get the score.

By 3000 points, with the same CPU...?
Mayeb running SLI, however, it only listed 1 GPU, but it also didn't list any of the clock speeds, only said NA

After relooking, they must be running sli, as it says linked cards. Heh, makes more sense now.

Expect high 3000s in 3dmark06 with the 7600GT. You can get more depending on OS used and of course your other hardware.

I am up over 4k with my 7600GT when I overclock it. I am still working on the max speed with it.

ya the 7600gt is a pretty good lil card

the one in my htpc (in sig) grabs 3300pts @ stock clocks (580/1500) its an evga 7600GT KO that i got for free haha!

I have yet to oc the sucker but i think i may take it outta my htpc and stick it in my main rig and expierement here on thursday while i take measurements on my 8800gts for thermalpads.

the greatest thing is they are a COOL and require no extra PCIE power. mine idles at like 40*c dunno what it loads at tho.

my highest 3dmark06 w/ 7600GT so far is 3751 with cpu at 3ghz, ram at 450mhz 5-5-5-15 2T and 7600gt at 630/775.

So far my max on Vista Ultimate 32 bit with E4300 and 7600GT is 3891. I'd probably break 4k if I were using XP. Oh well the E4300 still has a way to go and so does the 7600GT.

Something definitely wasn't right with your old 6600GT....mine scores 2071 in 3DMark06 (http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=2075026) My clocks are a little higher than yours though, 585/1275 But still, that 624 score was way low. And my benching was in Vista, I'm sure XP numbers would be even a little higher.

3DMark in my sig, first system. Running Vista x64. Video card is running at 590 mhz Core and 1600 memory. Those benchmarks are few months old though and drivers have matured since then.

Hmmm...should try OCing my 7600GT sometime as well.

I would definitely recommend overclocking a 7600GT. They seem to get pretty high OC's too.

Wonder why my runs so hot, idle 51, and found after a longer load time (was just going with 1 hour) it goes up to almost 70 on stock with no OC yet. maybe its the overall case thats hot. I have 1 front intake, 1 side intake, and 2 back exhaust. Will see how much lower it goes with my zalman gets here. Ill update after I OC it.

2900 with the 6600GT, you just broke my heart about how much of a jump the 7600GT was :(

My 6800GT at stock got 2324 in 3dmark06 (that's on an athlon XP 3200+)... so it must be pretty cpu dependent too. A 6800GT should crush a 6600GT.

Wha? Who got 2900 with a 6600GT?

ya with my 6600gt AGP back in the day the best i got in 3dmark06 was 1642

Probably.

However, I just bought a HR03GT for my 8800GT and it isn't cheap. Plus I bought a fan, extra sinks, PCI slot cooler, variable resistors, etc., to mod the card into an air-cooled beast! I'm honestly ashamed at how much I spent to mod this card. Oh well...it's Christmas! :santa:

Zalman came today so started testing.

Stock speeds, cooling droped from 53 to 43

Results from there were

3416 585/800 - 53º
3419 595/819 - 55º
3514 - 603/819 - 56º
3519 - 611/819 - 56º

the last score had artifacting and tearing so I droped it back to 603/819. I could say the extra 35 dollars was not worth the 180 point increase :/. Disapointed here.

I suppose for $110 you could have gotten an 8600GT (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130085) or x1950GT (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102034)
Or an X1950GT (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102061) for ~$135

Not sure if that could have been worth it or not.
