So after the Core 2 Quad, what is the next generation. And is this next gen going to be supported by any of the motherboards in the market today?

Don't know much about Penryn, except what's been mentioned here. But that's the next Intel line due out next year.

If you're looking for a more 'future proof' mobo, get one that fully supports 45nm architecture. Many of them do.

Thanks. Is there any talk out there of the PCIe architecture being replaced soon. I ask coz I am still on AGP and would hate to move to PCie just as it is turfed.

PCIE is not going to be replaced any time soon or for a few years for that matter.... PCIE 2.0 spec is out and pcie 2.0 card work in pcie 1.0 spec boards... it will be the same way when they finalize PCIE 3.0 in 2009.
