Hey guys, with my rig(see below), with just air cooling, i can get the idel temp at 27 C, and fullload at around 35 C....is my cooling good? or still need improvement?

those are awesome temps

guess its time for you to overclock the thing

This is kinda a stupid question..
Why overclock when you're over about 1.0-1.2 GHz?

... You see ABSOLUETLY NO DIFFERENCE...

I have a 1600 XP @ 1800 XP.. And really all's im doing is wearing out my CPU And having to worry about frying the card, etc.

I See no difference...It's fun and all.. To tinker with my card.. But personally over 1ghz or 1.2ghz There's no need for Overclocking.

Welcome to the Forums:

And I enjoy the challenge, thats why I overclock everything (don't ask me about lightbulbs!)

And my rigs crunch Seti work units faster OCed- I've got a total of about 1000 free mhz crunching away all day, every day!

Kato yout temps are GREAT! :)

I notice a big difference from 1G to 1285 not only can i tell but my Seti times are much faster, You say your wearing out your CPU by overclocking? what 15 years instead of 20 bothers you? well if you want the same CPU 15 years down the road you can have it! I dont mean to get down on you but your the only guy ive heard that does not notice his new overclocked speed.

But, but, you gotta overclock it! After all, this is the overclockers forum!

Sweet what's it being cooled with?

the system is being cooled by 2 120mm fans in the bottom-front for intake, and for exhault, 1 120mm on top, 1 60mm beside the cpu, 1 from the psu, and 2 slot blower.

for the cpu, i used ASII, plus Swiftech MCX462 80mm Helicoid Heatsink for mcpu....and my room temp is around 19 C

Good heatsink, add your heatsink to your sig! Show it off :)

That's a damn good air cooling rig. But with 19C ambient its no surprise your temps are low. My ambient temp is like 27C-28C (being in Florida and all).

Calculate your C/W and compare to others:
Delta = CPU temp - Ambient Temp
C/W = Delta / CPU Watts

But hey, if you're cool, you're cool.. Also onboard temp probes tend to lie, but if you overclock and you're still stable you're good.

With my glaciator I'm getting 30c idle and about 37c full load. It's running at 35 right now with WinAmp, IE, AIM and a few other proggies. Nice temps though.

ok....so my C/W is like....4
thanks for the formula, never heard it b4:D

yea, its nice and cold here in Canada, i'm just a little worry about summer time....AC isn't strong enough, damn:mad:

If you read heatsink reviews on www.overclockers.com they use the formula to compare heatsinks (that's where I got it from). It should tell you how well your CPU is being cooled, I think though I'm not a pro so read up before you take my word.

I think CPU watts for Athlon XP is like 70 watts?

So, using your CPU load temp

C/W = Delta / CPU Watts
= (CPU temp - Ambient Temp) / CPU Watts
= (35 - 19) / 70 = 0.228
That ain't bad at all, anything under 0.30 is good (lower the better).

Just for fun I'm going to do my setup with roughly close numbers

C/W = (35 - 26.6) / 25 = 0.336

Not so great, I definitely wouldn't try to cool an Athlon with my cooling rig.. Not sure about that CPU watt number. I'm running a K6-2 450 at 2.3 volts (at stock speed). Anyone know how to figure out how many watts you're radiating?

Merry Christmas!!!
