Oh, Santa... You're the best ever! (http://www.tweaktown.com/news/8642/index.html)

(I've been waiting anxiously to upgrade from my 128MB 6800 Ultra, but I want/need more than 512MB for Oblivion at 1920x1200. Now if only this happens for the GTS, I'll know I was on the -really- good boy list.)
That should be really interesting.
I wonder if a 3870 will come out with 1gb as well. I know they exist as I have read an article in pc magazine about a Velocity Mirco machine that had a 1gb ATI video system installed.

2 of ya mentioned 1920x1200 so far, got me curious, how much more GPU intensive is that compared with 1920x1080? I'm hoping the GT512 is good enough for max settings on Oblivion at 1080p?

You know how a medium stuffed Chicago pizza might be 12" and feed 2-3 people, while a large pizza is only 14" and feeds 3-4...
It's kinda like that. :D

I thought this was going to be a "Do games really need 1gb" thread... until I saw 'Oblivion'! Theres some extra texture packs I believe that will make use of near 1gb vRAM at 1920 rez.
RatBuddy, as the screen res gets higher games require more vRAM. If you run 1280*1024 then 512mb vRAM is prolly fine, but at 1920 w/ Oblivion + texture pack.. you might be in trouble.

That is the only reason why I didn't jump on two GTs in SLI... I literally have a new computer just laying about in boxes ready to be put together if not for my lack of GPU cards.
I'm upgrading just to play that game. The rest (like Bioshock) are... bonuses really. :santa:
Am I the only person who feels that that image looks fake?

is there a link that shows the upcoming VGA models that are about to be released?? maybe even prices and dates? something like the intel cpu lists that shows upcoming models, specs, projected prices and target dates?
i just got a pair of 512MB 8800 GTs and i'm reading more an more about people waiting for 'x'. wondering i purchased too quickly. i don't have anything built yet either.. just a bunch of boxes. VGA cards are ordered, but not shipped

Words to live by:
The moment you click "Submit Order" for a new _____ is the moment your order has become obsolete.
This particular season is just being harsh with new GPU revisions. I would say that those GTs you purchased will do you well for quite some time if you game in 1650 resolutions or less. The only reason I and a few others are holding back are for 1920 res or above.

ah crap, well that's me. my current display is a 46" 1920x1080p LCD, but i'm planning to replace it with a 30" 2560x1600 display sometime in the next year <- for photo editing but i'd like to play games at that res if i've got the display to do it :)
i don't mind getting outdated in a couple months, but my cards are getting outdated while i wait for dell to ship em lol oh well... i'll keep watching the market

Will EVGA be coming out with a 1gig version??? If so that would be awsome ill definately do the step-up to that cause i love playing crysis on our 52" 1080p TV, its playable with my current GT but it gets kinda slow at times and i dont have the patience for slow downs lol!! COME ON EVGA RELEASE!! Or should i wait for thewer kick A$$ GTS's? weeeee so many decisions in so little time!!

dont get too excited for the new gts. more power for not that much more performance. which also costs more.

Sweet! Thanks for the link. I'm going to wait until next monday and see if anything new is announced regarding the new 8800GTS' and if nothing new is out or they aren't promising I'll order that.
