maybe a disgruntled programmer did it on purpose, probably not.
Being a software engineer myself, its amazing how stuff like this isn't caught before a release. Their test team should be look at.
Man, that would tick me off something fierce.
Glad I dont play it anymore :)

Well that patch wasn't presented in the beta test of the unit so what ever they did. They redid ti and bamn slipped through the cracks by forgetting the proper directory name.
Indeed its a major screw up... I know I was helping alot of my friends ingame to fix the sucker before reboot. Thank god im on Vista no Boot.ini... as well with XP SP2 you don't need the boot.ini as long as the os is on the main drive/partition.

Hmmm. i didn't know SP2 caused windows to forgo the boot.ini. Luckely, most people should be on SP2 by now anyways. Hopefully this didn't take down too many computers.
And even with this mishap...i sooo badly want to return to Eve-online. With this new update.../me drools. I'v been waiting for this graphical update for a while, and was planning on returning to Eve once they release it....but with the lack of a job = lack of funds. So i can't return, untill i get money ( mind you, the money i do have is for christmas shopping ).
inside rumor has it that it was caused by a misplaced backslash which caused the installer to delete the C:\ root boot.ini file instead of the boot.ini file in the eve install file. that's why people that have there eve install on a different drive then the OS were spared. But I have to agree that's bad publicity right there and a lot of griefing generated in the forums...
Maybe they should have named their boot.ini file something else? :p

Maybe the moron that named any NON OS file boot.ini needs to have his fingers broken.
Honestly.. why the frack would you need a file named boot.ini for a game patch

Yea, something like "gamestrt.ini" would have been better.
