Pirates of the Burning Sea Beta

Anyone else got into it? I've been downloading/updating it for 24 hours now lol, lots of problems with the patcher so far. Hopefully it will get fixed soon so I can be a pirate :(

Why'd you have to mention this? I was trying to forget this game was coming out as the premise really swooned my heart....no time, no time. It looks like most are probably having problems with the patching as word says from their site.

Patching a beta? They best be putting captain hook or jack sparrow in there if this is gonna be real :beer:

Played a bit, can't say I really dig the way the game is made. Pretty unrewarding and awkward.

I spent a LOT of time talking with the devs about this game way back in 2005 when they first had a working alpha that they let us beat on.

My main concerns seem to still be valid.

While really fun, ship combat in and of itself is not different enough to warrant having that be pretty much 80% of the game (if not more).

Not going into specifics, but I REALLY want this game to succeed. The sound work of the game alone is worth buying it just to hear the cannons and ship ambient sounds.

Its pretty fun. I got in last month and got to play the closed beta for a little bit.

Port battles are cool cept the only 2 i was in I got raped by high lvls. Ship combat is fun and boarding is pretty sweet too. I mean the game looks great but I'm not sure it would hold my attention for a long time. Seems like pirates will always have a large player base compared to the other nations though. Who doesn't want to be a pirate though :)

I forgot about this game, looked at it like a year back maybe it was two, any way looked promising then.

The beta I played a few months back was terrible, but it was beta.

i dunno..

the game has a GREAT concept, looks GREAT! has interesting mechanics...but i dunno..

something about it kinda turns me off. i can't place my finger on it. Maybe i just havn't played the beta enough to make a fair judgement. The game just seems very intricate, and really deep when it comes to customization.

I'd think i'd LOVE that, since i LOVE LOVE LOVE eve-online...but for some reason..i'm not getting the same feeling that i got from Eve....i dunno WHAT it is...but something feels off.

I'll give the open beta some more time, see if my thoughts change or not.
