with the semester over, my new q6600 and hd3870 ready to rock, i need some new games!!!! i just downloaded the demo of crysis and cranked everything to very high just to check it out. i will admit it looks beautiful, but it really did feel like a rehash of far cry. im gonna run through the bioshock demo and check it out too here soon, but i get the feeling i wont be very enthused (at least not enough to shell out 50 bucks for it.) im super excited because i know i'll be getting the orange box and ive been DYING to play episode one and two for half life, as well as TF2. but i get the feeling that wont last very long. my brother told me he'd pay for my subscription and buy me the expansion if i played wow again with him, but ugh...that just seems like a bad idea.

long story short, these new next gen shooters are pretty and all, but im looking for a little more substance. also TRYING to keep away from MMO's. already getting the orange box, what else is there really these days?

I wouldnt play WoW.. I mean right now their desperate for users and they have gutted the lvling system from what Iv heard.. That and... the game is ancient.. You can waste the next three years of your life playing something much more prettier.. If you want a MMO try out age of Conan when it comes out here in the next month or two.

I really like Jericho. A lot of people say it sucks but I like it a lot and would recommend it.

Oblivion is my time killer, COD4's multiplayer looks amazing while the single is short but sweet, possibly UT3 might interest you as it will always have players

I havent finished Bioshock, but I was completely immersed in the story when I had to stop. It isn't a true shooter, but the experience is what makes it.

Another one for COD4, but yeah the game is really short, you could finish it one seating. If you start early lol

Also check Gears of War.

I'd check out COD4, UT3 and Bioshock. I didn't really enjoy bioshock (I couldn't get into it) but from what I've heard a lot of people really love it. CoD 4 is a lot of fun. Short single player but the multiplayer more than makes up for it. UT3 seems like it would be a lot of fun...I haven't played it yet though (I will once the price goes down $10-20).

they didn't "gut" the leveling system because they're desperate for more users, in fact the game is still growing.

they reduced the xp necessary to get to level 60, as they will be raising the cap to level 80 when the next expansion comes around and didn't want it taking the average joe 8-12 days played just to get to 60.

wow, despite being old, is -very- addicting once you get into it. i'd stay away from it if you desire to have a more diverse gaming experience ;)

Gears of War, BioShock, COD4, UT3 and The orange box are games I would highly recommend :)

COD4 definitely has my vote, and i've heard from friends i trust (though haven't tried them) that BioShock and OrangeBox definitely live up to the hype.

I will definitely emphasize this - the game is CRACK! It gives you little tidbit-rewards for your time spent enticing you to play longer and longer. God forbid if you want to have any decent PVE gear, then you're sucked in for at least 20+ days of playing time.

The game is fun if you can get in with a group of people you enjoy playing with; but a big major draw back for me is that in order to succeed in PVE, you have to play for at least 2.5+ consecutive hours on end and the game has no EFFING pause button! A 30 minute AFK during the middle of an instance is unheard of (either that or those people will most likely never group with you again).
