SEGA have posted an application to keep the DREAMCAST name a site speculated that they could be back into the hardware department and could make a DREAMCAST 2. It's an absolute massive rumor and speculation I think SEGA don't have that much money as stated not like Microsoft, Sony & Nintendo but it would be nice if SEGA did come back from the brink.

I know my dad would automatically pre order one, but I don't think this is true. Microsoft kind of replaced Sega's role in the console area and it would be extremely saturated with 4 consoles!

The more competition, the better! Bring on the DC2!

Honestly though, I don't see this happening. Sega are doing quite well in the software area, and after the commercial failure (commercial failure. It's an awesome console that just didn't do well in the market) of the Dreamcast, I don't think they'd be all up ons trying again. Time will tell, though.

yeah, sega is alive and kicking. They just only make software titles now.

And about the rumor...

its already been debunked. Sega officially responded to the rumor, and said that they have no intentions of going back into hardware production. the patent update was nothing more than that....a patent update. Remember, 1 or 2 dreamcast games were released in japan this year...for some odd reason. So that obviously means people are playing it. If they didn't update their patent's, someone could swipe the patents from under sega, and profit from sega's name brands, and idea's.

Is the same thing that nintendo does. Before they even THOUGHT about the wii, and the Virtual Console, they was constantly doing patent updates for all their older games ( like the NES and such ).

sad to hear, but no Dreamcast 2. And even if they DID make one...they had BETTER use hardware quite a bit more advanced than the PS3/360. Or they will have shot themselfs in the foot due to a insane late console launch.

No way! What companies released them? That would be like someone releasing a new title for the N64, which would be awesome!

That would be the NAOMI system. And yes... it's still very popular. You are correct.

Yeah, no DC2 sadly. It'd be cool if they were ramping up something cool like Virtual Console DC games, or something neat, but we can only dream :).

Well the idea of a DC2 has been crushed but I am looking for a DREAMCAST I loved Skies of Arcadia (where the HELL!!! is Skies 2 SEGA WHERE?), Marvel Vs. Capcom was the proper arcade conversion and brillient fighter game.

They're not hard to find in North America....... Maybe have one of us ship you one, if you have no luck?

edit: Nevermind, forgot you guys use PAL and 220 over there....

Dreamcast had the best versions of Majong I have ever played. (The game was called "Shanghaii 3" and had 4 different versions.) Had some really cool racing game and the background music I can still here in my head... Daaaaaatonaaaaa lets go away. (made no sense).

You'd find the occasional gem like Virtua Cop, or Lunar the Silver Star, but most of the games were buggy or had strange problems.

Not that I've ever seen. I had far more Xbox games have bugs in them, particularly game saves in sports games that hang the game up midseason.

I think Tommy must've bought a busted, USED system or something... Because first he said there WERE NO good games on the system. Now he's saying the games were buggy. The Dreamcast was the first system I ever modded. So I played a hell of a lot of games just testing it. I also brought it to Japan with me where all the games were dirt cheap. I don't think I ever ran into a single bug. On either domestic or foreign games.

Let's see... SOUL CALIBUR... no bugs there. Marvel vs. Capcom 2? Nope... Ready 2 Rumble Boxing? NFL/NBA 2k-2k2? No problems. Virtua Tennis? Spot... on... perfect.

I would've got a Dreamcast if the rumored Satcast add-on would've came out.

BTW, does anyone know where I can get a first-gen Genesis AC adaptor? ...must...play...Buck Rogers: Countdown to Doomsday...cannot get emulated ROM..to work in any emulator... Thanks.

The Genesis was the last good system that Sega built. Why? Because they actually supported it for a reasonable period of time.

Sega has a nasty habit of dropping support for expensive hardware shortly after it's introduced. Remember the 32X? A buggy 150 dollar upgrade to the Genesis. Lasted about 15 games. Sega CD? Saturn? Then the Dreamcast... All of these (except the 32X) were decent hardware systems that Sega did not support for long enough, IMHO. They seemed to have a business model that you should buy a new console every year.

Sega was wise to get out of the hardware business.

Well it's not that you don't know what you're talking about... You're just wrong. :)

Sega didn't stop supporting the Saturn. Sega thought they were on top of the entertainment industry after the success of the Genesis and they were treating the third party publishers (notably EA) like... well... Like Nintendo treats them now. And they all, in turn, turned their backs on the Saturn.

The Dreamcast was a continuation of that. EA never supported it because they were angry Sega was creating their own line of sports games and becoming a direct competitor. And... if you remember correctly... THe Dreamcast ran on Windows CE... MICROSOFT Windows CE. So as soon as Microsoft announced they were coming out with their own system, they withdrew all support. Hell... I'm sure they could've worked out a way they could press a button and turn off every Dreamcast on the planet.

This time they were left even higher and dryer than they were with the Saturn because the Dreamcast was a MUCH bigger success. But all of a sudden there was a mass exodus of publishers defecting to Sony and Microsoft who were putting more out of pocket than sega could even dream of.

That's a brief history of Sega.

What Rainman said is accurate, I'll just add that they also had a marketing department that consisted of a mentally retarded chimp and a squirrel that had hopped on a live wire then fell to the ground only to be hit by a Mack truck and yet survive.
