HEllo everyone.

I was craving some old school fps lastnight so I went to install Quake 4.
As soon as I click "install" button I get this error saying:
Couldn't find library MSVCR80.dll
and won't install the game!

after googling for awhile it seems other users with xp are having this issue from an update (not sure what update though).

I still havn't found a solution, I tried searching for MSVCR80.ddl on my system and I found tons of copies so I just dragged and dropped into win32 and got another error from that.

any ideas?

I just ran into this problem as well, and stumbled upon this thread through google. For anyone looking for a solution to this problem, here it is:

Go to the directory that the quake error screen is telling you is missing the file. For me it was "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12". Then cut and paste the file that quake is saying requires msvcsr80.dll and move to your desktop. For me the file was GrooveUtil or something like that. Then run the quake cd. You will get a pop up message telling you about some kind of error.. just keep hitting okay, continue, next, or whatever. Keep hiting it until the quake screen comes up. Then hit install. The error message will come up again.. hit okay a few times. Then take the file that you pasted to your desktop, and move it back to the original folder. In my case, it was the grooveutil file and I had to move it back to the office12 folder. Then hit okay on the error message again. Presto, quake should now start installing. It might freeze up while it is validating the cd key.. if it does this for too long, remove the file from the directory again (in my case the grooveutil file) and move to back to the desktop then continue. I'm not really on these forums much, so probably wont be replying to any posts.. I just wanted to post this for anyone running into this problem. Good luck.
