View Full Version : Changing FSB
Hi everyone: This is my first post on this board, so bare with me. I'm trying to overclock a PII 450 sitting on a atrend Mobo. The manual stated that if you change jumper 11 to open and switched the multiplier from 4.5 to 5.0 it would run @ 500MHz. I did that and I was still running at 450MHz. I'm thinking that I have to increase the fsb to maybe 110 or 115. Is this possible, this is my first attempt at a overclock, as you can probably tell. The BIOS is Award, and the mobo is rated up to 450. Any help would be appreciated.
Thank You, Ed

You would indeed have to change the FSB to overclock since the multiplier is locked on the CPU. If you haven't read the beginners guides yet, you can check them out here (http://www.overclockers.com/topiclist/index04.asp#BEGINNER GUIDES). You can also get more information by posting your motherboard specs in the Intel Motherboards forum.

you wont be able to unlock the cpu,so multipliers are out
shifting up the FSB to 110 will give you 4.5x110 =500Mhz
u may need to up the voltage too if possible

There are two places where you could change you FSB.
1- If your board is jumperless meaning that you don't need to use jumpers to set the fsb or the multiplier, then you have to check in your BIOS. Don't know what mobo you have so I can't tell how exactly.
2- If you have to use jumpers to set the fsb and multipliers then you have to find your motherboard user manual and find the different combinations.
Hope that helps. Only change the FSB remember that. Changing the multipliers won't do anything so don't waste your time.
