View Full Version : How can I get a Wii before Christmas? (That doesn't cost more than $249)
Welp, me and my ole layde went to some friends house last month for a dinner date. They had a widescreen and a Wii. I thought, sheeesh break out the friggen 360 and GoW! But to my surprise and my wife's too~! WE loved it! She "actually" wants to get this console and play video games with me. Holy~cow! Pigs have officially flown out my uuhhh,..back door~! :bday:
I have looked everywhere locally and no Wii consoles, nobody has them. Newegg is out and I ain't payin no $600 for one either.
Any links ideas?? Thanks fellas! krag :)

Do not feel alone krag. There is a short supply and every local store in a large raduis around me is out and expects to be in short supply for some time. I have heard from my wife, of desperate folks phone hunting and being really rude about it. This is another Cabbage Patch and Elmo rush.
It is going to be tough finding one cheap for some time to come. I wish you luck in your quest. Right now it would be easier finding a 20MM cannon.
You best bet is to befriend local $home resources and know when the stock gets in. Then be there.

I actually have had 2 in my possession in the last month. I dont want to have anything to do with the Nintendo Revolution (err, Wii). But i had a friend that wanted one for his GF and i got him one from work, and then my cousins are now getting one for xmas because of me (aunt stood outside for 6hours, only to be the first person in line NOT to get one).
I work at a big box store, and I cannot buy one if there is a line outside, but if it hits the shelf and i buy it on my break far and square, they cant say anything (and no i cant hold them :( )
Ive gotten lucky twice, as we had 2 surprise shipments come in, and well i snagged both. Basically think of stores that no one would think of going to until everyother store has a lineup. call them everyday at open, and you'll either get yelled at for being annoying, or will get lucky
Try walmart tomorrow (I guess it would be today now), both of my local walmarts usually get a shipment on Tuesday sometime between 11am and 1pm.
The only other option is to watch amazon, they had stock earlier today for about 5 minutes. You can have sites like wiitracker and nowinstock send txt messages to your phone when somebody has them in stock. The problem is they also tell you when the $600 bundles are in stock so you get a lot of false alarms.
Also somebody was selling them in the classifieds for $320 shipped, I know it is more than $250 but it is much better than the $450 you will pay on ebay.

find someone at toys r us and make a friend. They put them out on the shelves right when they get them so it could be 6pm or 7am. Kind of random. Have someone tell you that they got a shipment.

There was a sign outside my Best buy that said they will be selling them on Sunday Dec 16th.
I would assume that means they are again going to be hoarding them until then.
Have you tried Craigslist.com? There's an ass load of em on there.

Yea your gonna have to hound the stores and just keep calling. Toys' RUS normal get decent shipments on Sundays.
I don't think calling will work anymore for walmart. I called my Walmart this morning and they said a shipment just showed up, they hadn't even opened the boxes yet, but they were all claimed by people that had been waiting in line for hours.

It's really easy to get a Wii if you really want one. Just go to the game store closest to where you live EVERY DAY. Once a day is fine. Or if there's a place you can check on your lunch break everyday do that. I keep falling over them. 18 here... five there... So it can't be THAT damned hard if you're actually looking for one.
Places usually make their deliveries between 10-noon and it takes at least an hour to wait til customers leave so they can put them in the system. THen another hour for them to sell out... if they sell out.
Chicago (the CITY not the damned god-forsaken suburbs) doesn't have much love for the Wii. I can get one around the corner.

I faced the same dilemma. I went to Circuit City and spoke to the customer service people who told me to call them on Friday to find out if there is a UPS shipment coming in with Wiis on it. I drove by the store on Friday, chatted with customer service, and they told me that they did not have a shipment, but directed me to a local store that did (they have tracking software for each item they sell). They called the store and reserved one for me. I drove over there and within 20 minutes, I had a Wii for $249.
If you do this, one simple tip: make sure to ask that they take the Wii off the shelf and place it in the customer service area under your name. When we got to the store with the Wiis, the bozos never put my Wii aside.
Good luck!

Watch it now! The suburbs aren't all that bad, I found my Wii there. I used to be one of them city folk...
Called WallMart couple hrs ago and they said no shipment today but for me to call from 10-12 tomorrow.
I was at blockbuster earlier picking up some movies and I overheard a guy talking about the nunchucks to the chick at the gamerush counter and then she handed him a wii. I dunno how much they charge there but it's another place to look for one.

Yeah. There's also Gamecrazy at Hollywood video. People never think to look there for some strange reason... I might buy a Wii on Friday just for the hell of it. Sell it to someone here who's having a hard time finding them.

http://wiitracker.com/ if you want to find one online. nice roll-up of what websites have them in stock.
I had to get in line and wait for about 1 hr at Circuitcity. I think if you go to any major retailer on sunday morning you will have a chance at one.
Good luck.

Wally World's price on the Wii is $249. Others in this thread have mentioned that chain and I can't stress enough how easy it is to get one there if you make the effort. Wii's were just as hard, or probably harder, to find last year and I got several at walmart. Like rainless said the trick is to go EVERY DAY. Don't call, just go. Calling is no good because they may have them when you call, but they won't hold one for you and it could be gone when you arrive.
Wallmart is the best choice because
a. they get shipments in every day. Not necessarily shipments with Wii's, but they get stuff in and you never know if there are some Wii's on the truck.
b. WM has massive buying power so they do get attention from CEM's like Nintendo
c. it's not the first place the general public thinks of to look for something like a Wii
There is a 24 hour walmart along my daily commute, and last year I decided to leave for work 15 minutes early so I could stop in. Sure enough, on three separate occasions I scored a Wii. Some would call it luck, but it's really just a matter of playing the odds. FWIW, I told a coworker my trick and she scored a Wii for her daughter using the technique.

If you really want one, make an effort to get one. It's worth it because it is a lot of fun and chicks dig em. My fiance, who is definitively NOT a gamer, loves it and will play it even when I am not around.
Welp, search is over. I bought one here at OCF classifieds....for $375. I efforted that much. :) I know some of you will balk at the price but it was/is the best price I have found in the last 3 days. Keepin the $$ in the family here. Hopefully this thread will help other Wii lovers find thier console.

ALL the major stores are withholding most of their stock of Wiis for Sunday the 16th.
I know best buy has actually started to put a lot on display already since they have a ton that are just waiting around Sunday. So I bet it'll be easy to get one on Sunday. Yesterday I saw a few at my local Walmart too. I've noticed that stock is coming in more frequently than before. So to get one for $249 + Tax shouldn't be a problem at all.
Hey Kraig, I think I'm going to try this Wii trick with my gf as well. I've been with her for like 3.5yrs and she said the only game she liked back in the day was Madden, but she never plays.
I'm going to a party with her tonight with her Eng. dept. (she's an Eng. teacher), and the couple's house we're going to had a Wii the last time we were there, and they were all drinking and playing Wii!!! And, they're not all in their 20s... they were in their 30s, 40s, and I think even older... all playing Wii!!! English teachers!! It was funny to me, but this time I'm thinking I'll get my gf to play tonight. I didn't play last time, but I'll make it a point to try... I'd LOVE to get her into gamin'.

Looks like Wii's are getting harder and harder to get
By Peter Svensson

NEW YORK - To deal with frustration among holiday shoppers hunting for its Wii game console, Nintendo Co. and retailer GameStop Corp. are launching a rain check program.
"We expect this to be a great way for consumers who desperately want a Wii to have something to put under the tree," Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime said Friday.
The rain checks will be available at the regular Wii system price, $249.99, on Dec. 20 and 21, and will entitle buyers to get the Nintendo console before Jan. 29. Fils-Aime said "many tens of thousands of rain checks" would be available.
How exactly will then help put a Wii under a tree? Before Jan 29th? A piece of paper saying that you will get one isn't the same as having it on Christmas

Man people, stop hating on the Wii. If it's not your thing cool, but don't try and make it sound like its the worst thing on earth, or hate on people that do like it. If you're upset with the fact you can't get one, well then maybe you should consider spending a little more than just $250 for one, cause at this point in the season thats what its gonna take. For some people, they don't mind paying a little premium if thats what it takes to keep them from having to sit outside Best Buy all night for 10 hours. Krag got one for a price he offered, so you shouldn't bash him for that. Geez people, easy on the testosterone.

Nintendo is against forced Wii bundles: here's how you help
"We don't have to remind retailers of the strength we have right now. We are simply making an observation and that reinforces our point quite nicely with retailers."

You can try to force them into selling you a non-bundled Wii as Nintendo is against them.

its funny how people who are looking for Wii cannot find them but people who aren't looking for them did find them. after lunch, my friend and i went into bestbuy to look for a DS Lite game while there was a line of people waiting. Being curious as i am, i asked them what they were waiting for and apparently it was a Wii! they had about 60 but only 20 left when we were in line. the line was actually short! long story short, i bought two. wiit wiit

Nice avatar. It was either that or my current one.
Just call around everyday if you want one ;)
I got one today for an Xmas gift. It is not hard to get one you just have to know what you are doing and be persistent. I was supposed to go last sunday but stayed out way too late and overslept. I talked to a best buy employee and found out what time they get shipments in and that they should be getting a shipment in this week. Well today was the day so after calling everyday at 11:30 to find out. No one answered today so I headed down there and there were about 25 left. I think they will be getting more in for this sunday but it is best to check with the local store you are going to go to. It pays to be nice and courteas when asking and with luck you will get someone who will be truthfull;)
I drove over 150 miles round trip to get my Wii a month ago... well ok I was 50 miles away from home when I decided that I must have one. What I did was go to a Game Stop store had had them look up the stock of all stores within a 50 mile radius. He came up with a store that had 3 of them 30 miles away. The crazy thing was that the other two where purchased while I as still in the store looking at getting a couple extra games. I split the cost with my roomate whom was with me 50/50.
