I dont even know why they would release a card that has barely any performance increase over the GT... They would have been better off just leaving the GTS out and making a much better GTX or Ultra..

That’s review was pretty stupid. They don’t even overclock the cards to the same level.

They could at least show us some clock for clock.

I haven't seen an 8800GT do 800mhz yet. I'm pretty sure it can... but I also have a feeling the G92 GTS can do 1,000.

And they didn't "just release" this card. The 8800GTS already existed. All they did was update it. The 8800 GT is the new 8800GTS 320 and the 512MB GTS is the new GTS 640. And they'd pretty much HAVE to have something like that with all these people running around with lifetime warranties...

Wow I'm so glad I got my GT, f that card. Def. not worth the money, I realize they didn't overclock the GTS but still, I would except much better stock performance out of the GTS, I wish they would stop f'ing around and roll out those 9 series!

Seems to be about a 10% improvement which coincides w/ the 10% additional SP's. If the price was only about 15-20% higher (also have to account for the better HS) then the GTS would be worth it. As it stands the GTS is about 30% higher (MSRP anyways). Higher performance always comes at a premium price, though.

Not worth the extra cost for the masses, but still a nice card. My buddy's holding out for the 1GB version (if ever produced) to step-up from his 8800GTS640.

They DID overclock the GTS.. It only went something like 20mhz higher than the GT..

Just checked out joesaiditstrue's link to the anand review, saw something interesting on page 7. The test system - QX6850, 4x1GB DDR2, HD, etc, with an 8800 Ultra only drew 330 watts at load. I like that, shows that many people overestimate their power needs.

I would like to know how they came to that conclusion. Jonny's tests show very different.

I dont see how that can be. The 8800 ultra alone at load will be almost 300.

Not really good OC for 8800 GT my OC was 750/1040(2080) and much better score with 3dmark2005 about 23000 (1024x768) with E6850

hehe i got mine voltmoded rockin at 820mhz watercooled.. some got em to 910mhz with the voltmod...

I was sure it was possible. But, like I said, I think the 8800GTS can do 1000 with a voltmod. It can already do over 800 without one.

an evga 8800GTS G92---> then step up to the next 9-series cards if they come out on feb?

XFX is always a solid choice as well.

From what ViperJohn said in another post the G100 based cards (9-series?) won't be out till 2Q '08. Look for a dual PCB G92 card (2 GT's or GTS's sandwiched together) around Jan/Feb.
