View Full Version : Thermal Fan-Control Circuit
Hi guys have any one tried this Thermal Fan-Control Circuit?
I'm thinking of trying but i'd like some comment first :)

That looks fine, as long as you are a little handy with a soldering iron. Might try that one myself.
Adrian,
Haven't tried that one yet, did make this one, http://www.heatsink-guide.com/antinoise.htm
It was posted on Overclockers.com on Dec. 14, still playing with various fan's and using a hair dryer for a controlled heat source, so far it's working sweet, and a lot easier to build, cost $6.50 total, got the parts from my local RadioShack, give it a look if you haven't already.

Thanx for the link but as far as i know it the fan is either on or of, or am I wrong?
I'd rather have a circuit that has more than on/off...
Adrian,
After doing some more experimenting with that circuit it is more than just a on/off switch, by placing a volt meter with the fan output side and using my finger as a heat source, I was able to watch the voltage output increase as my finger came in closer contact with the thermistor, spinning the fan faster.
Even holding my finger at approx. 1/4" away the voltage stabilized. The reverse holds true also, moving my finger away from the thermistor the voltage output decreased, and the fan slowed. I think with a little experimenting you could achieve close to the same results, The difference I see is that the circuit you mention does not shut the fan's completely off.

No, you're right the circuit i mentioned doesnt turn it completly off. But my intention to building a fan control circuit is to be able to have my extremly loud Delta fan to go fro approx. 7 v - 12 v. But of couse youre siple circuit could be better because of the few parts minimizes the chance of failing to work (i dont wanna risk my cpu, just cu i want it less noisy if you know what i mean):)
