Should I get one of these or just go for a PCI card?

If I should get the USB, can you recommend me one that's good and cheap?

I use one like this, the R-SMA adapter is nice to put an antenna on.

A USB Wifi adapter should work just fine. The only thing is, I would recommend it be USB 2.0 just to be safe.

either should be fine, although with an external one more chance of breaking it off whereas internal will use more of you expansion slots...

USB wireless adapters often have the added 'bonus' of being fairly unreliable, especially under heavy network usage.

I used various wireless usb adapters (Netgear WG111, SMC adapters, DLink DWL-g122 etc) for quite some time until I finally got fed up with them cutting out or dropping the signal occasionally.

Since then, even though it takes up a pci slot, my Trendnet/atheros (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833156165) adapter has been well worth the 20bux I spent on it. With a 15dbi aftermarket antenna it's been pretty incredible overall, and no more periodic disconnects.

Sometimes it's cheaper to just buy a used WRT54G from eBay, and install DD-WRT on it in wireless bridge mode. I've been running my computer that way for months now and never get dropped.
