I've got an old 32x TEAK CDRom drive ( upgrade soon ). I'm using it in my new setup for timebeing but I've noticed when (in windows) it reads info from the CD in short bursts pausing the pc in-between bursts...example when installing Quake 3>

CDRom reads/installs data...then pauses freezing pc ( mouse doesn't move etc )...CDRom reads/installs data...then pauses freezing pc...CDRom reads/installs data...and so on, same when reading any data except music Cd's. This never happened before.

I'm guessing there may be something wrong with a cable somewhere but can't seem to see any problems. All un-necassery CDRom settings are off and MB settings are correct.

Any ideas ?

Well i get that with my old creative cdrom too. It mostly likely just needs a good cleaning. :D

Well...at least it don't bust up yer cd's....I came home one day with my little brother telling me that my Worms Armaggedon CD had "busted" inside the cd rom. I opened it (voiding the damn warranty) and sure enuf, a bunch of plastic and silver metallic plastic was all over the place. I wonder how long he was playin'. lol...good thing burners are readers too...else i'd be skrewed
