Fun read, takes me back really. It's funny, music has always been a gateway to the past. Everyone has a song that brings them back. The entire Dookie album for instance, makes me think of laying in the living room listening to that album with my step sister and her new boombox ahhh

Anyways, i never thought video games would evoke the same sensations, but this article hints at it for sure.

Well, I meant that one of those games should have been a top pick for their respective years of release.

You've never heard of Zelda? Well... Good for you. One good franchise makes Nintendo ten times lazier... (and they have 3 good franchises).

I kind of like the idea of an alternative list since everyone in the universe already voted HL2 game of the year. It doesn't need ANOTHER award.

I agree with the first part, but TA certainly rivals FF7.

Though it always gets boring quickly, you gotta admit that first gran turismo game was a hell of a lot of fun, and i would argue it sparked a genre.

Along those lines, maybe it's just me but in my mind Goldeneye was a stellar singleplayer (played many many times over) and was the first good multiplayer game (after saying that statement I found myself rifling through all my games and racking my brain). That was a great year for gaming.

I could never get my head round most of the 3D Nintendo games. SMB 3 is IMHO probably the greatest computer game on any platform ever, with SMW and the NES/SNES Zelda games coming pretty close. But in 3D they just didn't work for me.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion review is funny. They really make it sound like an MMO with out the other people. LoL

As much as I loved GT, FF7 > Gran Turismo

Everything else I'll have to agree with though, especially Battlefield 1942.

I would take Half Life > Metal Gear Solid > Zelda. All good games, just a matter of opinion which is best.

Another FF7 over GT vote as well.

Man I agree totaly...Q3A and UT brought as many fraggers online as Q2 did when it first came out....I'm glad I don't rely on their opinions...I guess they don't like FPS's.
Never played the later versions of Zelda, just the original on the PS1, and it blew chunks...had more fun playing duke nukem 1 or biohazard (really old skool).

The Sims?!?! just because 10 million people bought it and its billion expansion packs doesnt mean it was a better game than Perfect dark, Diablo II, ect...

I may be in the minority now, but I still believe that Quake III is the pinnacle of FPS design. Often imitated, but never duplicated, few games offer the raw fun of Quake III Arena.

Oh, games have come close, but no game has ever given me the thrill that Quake III did at first and still does to this day.

Agreed, at least as far as deathmatch goes.

I yawned at Quake III's demo/test. Never even bothered to buy the whole game. I honestly haven't really cared for id's games much. They make amazing engines, but their games are just bland to me. I'm more of a single player and they've never really made an awesome single player game. I did play the living hell out of CTF, TF, and Rocket Arena for Quake 1. They were the cat's ass, but were 3rd party mods.
