View Full Version : Ok got my Duron..
I have bought a duron and I inserted it into the mobo, and i thermally glooped it. Question 1. how much thermal grease do i need, and where do i need it. i just have it covering the core right now. Question 2. How can I avoid crushing the core? I have a global win CAK38 HSF. Question 3. How can i keep the HSF in there...they clips dont exactly fit, so i would have to bend them...would that make the HSF prone to falling off? what should i do to combat this? Question 4. Is there anything else i should worry about? I dont wanna break another CPU!!! Thanks in advance!
also, it is an "AKCA." Is that good?

OK, first, make sure you have applyed the compaound on the core correctly. On the core though. Should be paper thin. Also, apply it to the underside of the HSF, and wipe it off with a dust-free rag/clan plastic bag. Then, place it on the duron, and clip it on. Dont worry bout crushing the core, unless you try, it wont happen. If the clips dont work, use one of those little cord bundler things, REALLY tight.

Oh, and what do you mean by clips not fitting, that they are hard to get on? Dont worry, take the MOBO out, and put some foam around the hooks on the socket, and use a flat-head screwdriver to force it on

Btw...
If you have the Heatsink that originally came with the CPU USE IT For now until you do more research on it, I Would put a Delta 7000 RPM Fan versus the 4600 RPM Fan that come's with the AMD Heatsink's.
Also.. I hope that you put a thin coat on the core, Because if you put to much, the grease will liquify and your SCREWED.
Put a little in the middle of the core, Get a old credit-card and spread it just so the top is grey..... And you can see a little of the dark greyish on the core. I also recommend Artic Silver II For this and OVERCLOCKING.
Dont force the heatsink onto your motherboard, If you cannot do it get a friend to do it..
If a friend doesnt know how...
Then you're gonna have to take it into a computer shop, they'll probably charge you like 10 Dollar's for applying the heatsink, but atleast you wont have to go any purchase a new cpu...

What does that mean, or what does it do?
