I just finished the level where the nuke goes off...talk about a surprise.

As i've been playing this game i've been pondering the idea that the people who made it were trying to send a message. The level where you crawl out of the back of a helicopter sent shivers down my spine. When i was younger i watched T3 and was horrified by those scenes in the movie of nuclear warfare. Ironically, now i spend much of my time studying the Cold War.

At any rate, hats off to COD4, i kinda bashed the demo for the game play but i still got the game anyways and the storyline, so far, is truly pretty darn good...and scary.

Yeah, that scene made me go; 'Wow, I've never seen this done in a game before'. Totally nutz.

I know we're not suppose to go into political discussions around here, but what did you make of it? I mean, there is no way they spend the time to make a level like that if it doesn't have a purpose. Personally, i think it was less political than simply a message to us as humans.

I really loved the SP mode. the story line and the many different types of levels instead of just run and gun all the time was awesome. the only thing i don't like is the infinite enemy's if you don't push forward.

and yeah the nuke thing made me go WTF

The Chernobyl Mission was one of the best parts in any game I have every played (Minus the absurdly difficult ending where you have to fight off ~150 guys)

+1 The Sniper mission is absolutely awesome. Very nicely paced action, extremely suspenseful. It was really cool to be right in the stink of it all and not be detected. Makes you wonder what it would be like to do that sort of stuff in real life.

I remember I saw this documentary on snipers on the Discovery Channel years ago, and I remember one of the guys saying that at certain times on their mission, you cannot move, at all, for any reason what-so-ever. If you have to pee, you pee, if you have to crap, you crap. In your pants! No matter what you do you; just can't move or you'll risk blowing your cover. I just wonder how you could celebrate a successful mission when you have poo running down your leg.

And so is america's army...come on who are you kidding?

What is the purpose of having me crawl out of a helicopter to see what nuclear holocaust looks like?

I've got a degree in history and one of the things it has taught me is how to look at the world from a different perspective, one from a future historians point of view. One of the best sources of information is primary sources of culture. Right now one of the major primary sources of culture for our time is video games, if you don't think this game is trying to tell us something then i'm not certain you're getting all you could from it and all that i think it was designed to do.

There are other subtle things i have picked up on in the game that i would be glad to discuss via PM (as they get fairly political).

One of the best war books i have ever read about one of the best snipers the Marines have ever produced. I won't give away details about the story, but suffice to say that many of the things that you see/hear of regarding snipers in popular culture are because of what he did in vietnam.

I think the part of the sniper mission where you are surrounded by enemy troops while laying in the grass, for example, is extrapolated from a very similar event that Carlos Hathcock went though.

I would also recommend this book

I strongly suggest anyone even remotely interested in the aspects of being a sniper read these two biography's.

In that sniper mission with the 50cal... did anyone else manage to shoot right though Zakaiev and also kill the guy standing behind him? :)

1 shot.. 2 kills

i just got done with that level and i was able to shoot the guy behind him. I love that mission I play it over and over. Its funny too if u get a head shot on him his arm still blows off lol.
Have u guys tried to kill that helo in the prior level just before u crawl through all those enemies. If u run back to the church u have a good chance of getting a shot off, but u wont have cover for long. Also another difficult part is if u shoot that wild dog!

You guys, Halo 3 was more epic, i mean, think of all the soldiers in 500 years who will be having mass amounts of war with other planets. Thats what i got out of that game, a realistic perception of the future.

Halo 3? Bleghh. But more epic, yeah.

+1 for the sniper mission. Overall I think the game stayed very true to the formula and did a decent job at making you feel like you were right there. I'd really like to see a game like the movie Black Hawk Down.

I did that, except my bullet went through the guy in front, then him, then the guy behind!:bday:

One shot - three kills!

Yeah that mission was pretty cool. I didn't shoot the dog though, what happens? The bit at the end wasn't that hard; I just found an alleyway to camp in, set up some claymores and then killed everyone. The really hard bit was getting to the helicopter afterwards: I ran to the heli, but forgot MacMillan and then it took off without me...

Also, the part after the nuclear blast was pretty disturbing. I didn't think that you would die right after saving the downed pilot.:(

LMAO... well usually they plan ahead & they are wearing a depens (sp?) basically an adult diaper. Long as you aren't pee'ing & crapping like a very sick puppy you should be fine though the crap would be a little slimy.lol

You know it would suck if your cover was blown after you just blew one in your pants & had to run for your life...LMAO HA HA HA HA HA HA

I'm sorry it's almost 5am after working an all nighter & well that idea just popped into my head & I busted up laughing and all my co-workers just stared at me like WTF?lol

I prefer to call it the battle of Mogadishu, and not use the movie.

Actually, a game was released called Black Hawk Down. Surely an attempt to cash in on the movie. The game was half decent at best. But there have been far worse products that have come out that were clearly on limited budgets with limited talent trying to cash in on the newfound "modern military" loving crowd.

The story is very powerful and because you have control of the person at certain times it makes it more powerful than any movie could ever be. This is truely a masterpiece game.

Delta Force BHD is an old game, I think it came out in 2002. However, I enjoyed it because I like run-n-gun FPS. Their next release Joint Operations is pretty kick ass too. It is old, but the International Conflict mod team has totally transformed it.

Many ex-military people from all around the world play it, so you might want to check it out (send me a pm and I'll hook you up with some extra special details).

CoD4 is intense on the MP level, but the same maps day in and day out get a bit boring. The single-player was really engaging, with a decent story-line (compared to the other stuff out there).

It's trying to tell us and the world that if anybody nukes us or our troops, the UK and US will find those that are responsible and kill them with extreme prejudice. ;)

Just got it for Christmas, beat it the other night. Great game... lots of fun. The nuclear blast scene / level kind of got to me though. Personal reasons.

Loved the AC130 level, that was badass, sniper mission was great fun and MP rocks.

My god, just beat the game last night (I have it for 360 not PC). Last night was my first run through the game. Played it first time on veteran. People, don't bitch about difficulty until you play through the game on veteran. The sniper mission at Chernobyl was amazingly difficult.

The storyline in CoD4 was amazing. The nuke goes off, the son commits suicide, Zakhaev LAUNCHES MORE nukes, and people actually die in it as opposed to everyone living a happy ending. Gotta say this game was nuts. Yeah, when that nuke went off, that was completely unexpected.

On a side note, has anyone beat the VIP mission?

I loved the sniper mission with a passion and the best part was laying still in the grass while a crap load of people and tanks passed RIGHT next to you. I also liked when you has to crawl under the trucks and then haul arse out the back.

Multiplayer is also awesome, currently level 47. Except the few people who ruin the game for everyone or just act like a child. Just today I had someone on my team complaining that FPS are not my thing despite him being killed early on every round and he wasn't there in the prior map where I basically carried my team.

This game is awesome, I just got to the Chernobyl mission but I've got to shut it off. This and then Bioshock for a few hours before that, shoot my eyes are fatigued, I need a break.
