I just got my hands on a BFG 8800 GT 512. Whats the best way to start to OC this baby? I justed finished OCing my Q6600 so I understand any risk and overall how its done. But with my CPU, i played with the speeds and settings, then tested with Prime95 and check my temps.

So what do i need to try to OC a Vcard? what programs or what testing stuff do I need to help me find that sweet spot on it? Im running Vista64. Thanks!

You need Rivatuner (http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=163)to OC the card and ATI Tool (http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=725)to test for stability

Goodluck with this.

I've got my BFG 8800GT OC (Not OC2) running at 715Mhz core, 1910Mhz Memory & 1790Mhz Shader. I really want to take my shader higher but it screws up going just over 1800Mhz, which I'm disappointed about since it idles at 32c, 42c full load.

another cool program to test stability with is this real time lighting program

http://www.daionet.gr.jp/~masa/rthdribl/

it's fun to watch and you can config it about anyway you want. :)

That works well to get the temps up, I found OpenGL Fur Rendering Benchmark (http://www.ozone3d.net/benchmarks/fur/) also work well for stability testing and you can run benchmarks with it...

first time I used it my GPU temps went up 3 C higher that using ATI Tool...try it at high res with AA, it draws a lot of resources

Alrighty, I have just installed a Thermalright HR-03 GT with 120mm fan to my BFG 8800 GT 512 OC. I bumped the stock clocks of 625core to 700, Shader from 1500somthing to 1800, and mem from 900 to 1000.

I had run a few stress test with lower clocks so now this one of the clocks i wanna hit at the very lease. So if im correct in saying, I should run the ATItools Stress test and Scan for Articfats right? How long should i scan for? 5hours plus? 1hr? I tested a 700/1753/1000 clock test overnight (about 7hours), no errors.

Temps are like 48-53c underload, depending on day or night.

Cool thanks for any feedback.

Use rivatuner!

Yea i do use rivatuner to overclock the card, but for testing, is there something in rivatuner that i overlooked? I use ATItool to stress and test the settings.

rivatuner doesnt have any built in stress tests
