View Full Version : Internet Connection sharing
I cant seem to figure out how to make this work using the native windows xp.
My laptop is connected to a wireless network that is far away, my phone isnt. I need to use wifi on my phone but the signal is too low for it to connect but the radio on the laptop seems to work effectively. How do I configure the laptop to share its internet basically acting as a signal amplifier?

I'm almost 100% certain most laptops out there can't act as a signal booster with their built-in wireless cards. Only way I can think of this working is connecting the phone to your computer and bridging connections, to be honest.
ok what about connecting my laptop directly using ethernet then having it use its wifi so that my phone can connect to it like a hotspot.

I believe you can connect your phone via a wifi ad hoc connection. I've heard of it being done but haven't tried myself. Quick google search (http://www.google.com/search?q=%22laptop+as+an+ap%22&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a).
What about windows internet connection sharing, it wouldnt work for this situation?

Depends on the phone, I suppose. I suck at networking and rarely use my cell phone but think of myself as a pretty good googler. Check the first link in the search (http://www.google.com/search?q=%22internet+connection+sharing%22+phone+w ifi&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a).
