i just bought a hard drive cooler. cant return it. it is rattling like mad after one day of use. is it the bearing that is rattling? i have had very bad luck with applying oil in the past. anything else i can do to fix it? if i touch the hub it stops rattling for a few minuets then starts again. very annoying. and i dont want to junk it. it was 20 bucks. when this is working properly it was silent. the fan is only 19cfm. 60mm. so it is not supposed to be loud.

please disregard this post! unless someone wants to tell how to fix fans for future reference.

it was not the fan after all. after a lot of trouble shooting i found a loose standoff on the motherboard that was rattling!

LOL Good you found the problem :)

I was going to suggest you apply some WD40 on it :)

in my experience. do not use wd40 or 3 in 1 oil on ball bearing fans. they will work for a day then they are destroyed. the bearings are sealed. all oil does is make the shaft slip on the bearing race. then it either gets real noisy or stops.

lucky my problem wasnt the fan, this time.
