odd ie and gifs

has anyone else had this prob. ive had it with ME and 98 SE after i update my IE the bigger gifs slow my ****ing browser down SOOO much and im on cable so its not loading time.... but when i dont update my IE i dont have this prob.. does this make sence to anyone??? i know it doesnt to me..

P.S i hope i dont have to go netscape :eek:
