I have a Celeron 400@500 socket 370 (66mhz bus)that I've been trying to get to 600mhz.
The motherboard is a Matsonic MS7192SM.
I 've replaced the stock hsf with a copper Gladiator and the idle CPU temps dropped from 53C to 29C, 34C under load.
The higest FSB setting I can get with stability is 83mhz, any multipier setting above 6x has no effect the system boots @500mhz.
Yes I have tried lowering the FSB and I get the same result at 66 and 75mhz....any combination above 500mhz and the system boots at 500mhz.
I can't find a bios update and the manual says it supports 600mhz processors.........help!

:eh?:

OK Basically your Celeron won't go that high probably 550 max.

Intel multipliers are locked so don't try fiddling with that.

Your multiplier is 6, with a stock FSB of 66.

If you only have 83 FSB and then 100 then you can try 100 FSB and you might have to add some voltage into it and if u don't get that speed than that can be your max or so...

Is this a dual processor board, or just one that supports either a socket or slot processor? If it's the either/or board, you might try a slotket with voltage adjustment (if your board doesn't support voltage adjustment, that is). I have my C400 @ 600, 2.2V on a Gigabyte slotket.

If it's a dual processor board, I've read that those don't overclock as well as "normal" boards.

Its either Slot or Socket 370, although its only a single processor board.

Yes it supports either processor(one slot 1 or one socket 370)

It's running 6x83 and accepts multiplier seettings from 3 to 8.0, fsb settings 66,75,83,100.

When I try to boot at 6x100 I just get a black screen, no beeps or anything, and multiplier, fsb and vcore goes back to default settings on re-boot.

This board has firmware plug-n-play cpu settings also....so basically you can drop in a processor without setting up jumpers or bios and I think this is what's tripping me up, could it be that this feature is overiding my settings due to 66mhz cpu detection and if so how can I stop it from auto detecting the cpu(of course I have set cpu settings to manual in the bios)?

I tried upping the voltage as high as 2.4 volts and that did'nt work either.

I just wanted to eek out a little bit more seeing as it's running so cool--30 to 32C today with ambient temp of 75F

I'm thinking the EL-CRAPO board is the problem.

Thanks guys

In your case something on the PCI bus doesn't like running at 40mhz (120fsb/3). You might have to jump to 133 bus and add some voltage to get her into windoze. Beware of heat and adding too much voltage!!

thanks pinkey ive been waiting for a reply ac97 sound is not enabling higher than 1050mhz ill try rebooting without it .
Also no voltage option only +/-0.5 0.38and0.28 in bios ?

mx: did you give it a try at 100FSB with the L2 cache disabled? Most mendocino Celerons' full speed cache maxes out around 550Mhz so this way you could find out if it's the L2 holding you back or not, in which case you could try a lower L2 latency.
