Well i've got some very wierd symptoms with one of my chips

It seems to boot once and while and sometimes consistenly but when it does it says that it is posting @ different speeds every time.
and I don't mean cause i have the fsb changed etc.

i get posts of 1940 !!!, 1344, 1572, and every number in between you can think of.

there is a tiny chip in the left hand corner.

I haven't been able to get to windows cause i was screwin around with it tryin to get the right speed, and then it decided it didn't wanna boot, so I will see. I really don't want this chip to be dead as I wanted to play with it, seeing as i got a pretty damn good stepping..

well LMK guys..
and the board I was using was a kt7-raid, a duron 650 and 1.2 bird post and work fine in the board.

I have also tried the cpu with the bridges both unlocked and in their original state, nothing.

the only other thing I can think of is the large amount of arctic silver all over the cpu, well not all over, but quite a bit.

Please LMK

Thanks,
Abirinder..

Have you tried to reset your BIOS by taking the CMOS battery out for at least 30 seconds? I would try this and also flashing the BIOS, maybe it got corrupted. I have never heard of a CPU kinda working. It is either dead or live.

well It is Kinda working, and it is not the biod, but thank you for the suggestion, the reason I say it is not the bios is because 2 other chips (a 650 duron and 1200 t-bird) both work perfectly in the board..anyone else?..

It really sounds like not trully unlocked.
I would try simply cleaning it up completely(birdges, core, everything)

Contact cleaner for AS-2 and a good eraser if you used the pencil trick.

When I chipped the corner of my Duron 700, it would post just fine - but it couldn't complete an OS load on Win98. So, in a way, that CPU still "kinda" works. I got a replacement for it, though. About all the thing is good for anymore is testing to see if a MB will boot a CPU and is not dead - I don't know that (other than a keychain) it can be used for anything else. Too bad, I managed to get a 38.5% overclock out of it.

from what I've heard you can sometimes run the chip @ a higher voltage or @ a lower speed ;)..may be somethin to try...

Get it at Radio Shack, it is a spray that will get pretty much anything off the CPU.
